Dr. Newhouse was born and raised in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School after receiving a B.A in history at Wayne University where he graduated cum lade and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society. He took a surgical internship in Denver, served two years in the U.S. Navy as a general physician and took his advanced training at the University of California San Diego's psychiatry residency. He has been awarded a Distinguished Life Fellowship in the American Psychiatric Association. He is on the active staff of Palomar Medical Center and the University of California San Diego Medical Center. He maintains a faculty association with UCSD Medical School where he is an Assistant Professor.
