Dr. Michael Burton Pritz, MD

Dr. Pritz as a young surgeon at University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital treated my nearly three year old who had an astrocytoma Grade II of the brainstem. At that time CT scans were the brand new technology and there were only a few of those machines in the state. Medicine has come a long way since then, but so has my son. My child was not expected to see the one year survival mark, and five years would have been a gift, but on March 13, 2026, he celebrated his 51st birthday. He had survived 47 years of a pretty much insurvivable cancer. Has it been a typical life? No. Has it been a good life? Yes. We are grateful to Dr. Pritz for saving him and for giving him a chance at life. No one can explain how our son had managed to beat this bad cancer rap for so many years. Amazing.

I had a large brain tumor located on my brain stem and was referred to Dr. Pritz from Evansville, In because he was one of only a few neurosurgeon's who could do surgery on brain stems. This all happened back in 2002 and i came across this site trying to find a current phone number for him. He literally saved my life and I was left with relatively minor neuro deficits because of him. I couldn't swallow for over 3 years and one of my vocal cords is paralyzed but i am up and around and live a normal life. I was in pretty bad shape and had a lot of increased intracranial pressure problems when i was finally diagnosed. I cannot begin to emphasize how wonderful a doctor he is. He always explained everything and took so much time talking to my family. I am an RN and have worked with many neurosurgeon's and had found most of them to be very aloof and arrogant, but he was the exact opposite. I would highly recommend him for surgery if you need it. I think he may be retired now though.

In 1989, Dr. Pritz performed a 14 hour surgery to remove my then 2 year-old son's brain tumor. Dr. Pritz was so compassionate and caring and helped us through a very difficult time. We can never thank him enough.
