Dr. Michael Anthony Randolph, MD

I like Dr. Randolph more than the numbers seem to be shaking out on this review. He is very nice and friendly, obviously very competent and knowledgeable, and I would much prefer my PCP to be an internist than a family practitioner. But I fear he may be overburdened. He (or his office) has gotten slow in getting lab results and other information out; it happens when I follow up. During a visit, he spends too much time talking and not enough listening--this is probably my biggest gripe--and then he has others to attend to. I honestly don't know how much he really could have done different about the following, BUT: Over the years, my total cholesterol has gone up. Over recommended levels, by far. My HDL ("good" cholesterol) was always way high; in fact the lab report came back with an asterisk denoting that such levels are considered "protective" against coronary artery disease. He for quite a while told me not to worry about it, it's good, my weight was OK, "you'll probably… live to be a hundred." Then, I had a heart attack. I called the office and reported this, but received no follow-up, which maybe isn't necessary but certainly would have been nice. Like I alluded to above, I'm not blaming him, and honestly everyone has been pretty surprised about the MI (I'm thin, relatively young and fit, no family history or other known risk factors, etc.). And it should be pointed out that the ground is full of heart patients with no known risk factors. Still, I can't help but think that if he wasn't so harried we'd have been able to discuss this more. At one point a year or two ago he said 'we can talk about putting you on a statin" but there was never any follow-through. I'm left thinking perhaps this could have been averted. To tell the truth though, I doubt his situation is much different from most practitioners today. I've left his practice, but only because I've moved away from the area. I hope readers don't take this the wrong way--I'm just being honest and thorough here. I think he's a good doctor, and I'd recommend him to anyone, but I'd advise ALL patients of ANY doctor, especially a PCP, to be informed and aggressive about their medical care. You can't assume that anyone, anywhere, has the time to do their job as thoroughly as they should be able to.

I've been a patient for quite a few years. Never had any illness that wasn't taken care of. Referals not a problem, even at the last minute!!!
