I have recurrent kidney stones and a history of kidney infections that are resistant to oral antibiotics. I woke up one night with a stone and was taken by ambulance to Flower. Flower wanted me to see their urologist and I refused bc I have a urologist who knows all my extensive history. Flower released me without doing a urine sample or any blood work. They only did a CT to see the stone. They sent me home with pain meds and told me if I didn't pass the stone to f/u with my urologist in a few days. (which leads me to believe they didn't even read my medical history). When Rashid's office opened, I called told them what Flower had said and asked if Dr. Rashid wanted to see me. He did. So against my objections that I could probably pass the stone - just like Flower suggested, I went in and saw Dr. Rashid at 4pm. He looked at my urine about 4:30 and started immediately making phone calls on his personal cell phone over to TTH as I needed emergent surgery and he wanted to make… sure that the anesthesiologist and surgery staff stayed until he got me over there. I ended up being admitted into the ICU for 7 days because the infection was so bad and I ended up going septic. If Dr. Rashid would've never insisted that I come see him that Friday and called to get all the docs to stay to get me into surgery as quickly as he did, I would have died. Another time, he's helped when Infectious Disease left me in the triage for 3 days before coming to see me, he ended up stopping in after work one day when he wasn't scheduled for rounds at the hospital to make sure I was okay and to look at my labs himself and discuss my case with ID, so they got me back on their radar. He is simply amazing. He's sat down and reviewed my labs and determined that I had two types of bacteria in my kidneys at the same time so that is why my meds were not working and the infection kept coming back. If you want a thorough doc that goes above and beyond for his patients, Dr. Rashid is your guy.
