Dr. Michael E. Rettig, MD

Dr Rettig spent less than 5 minutes with me. He was rude, dismissive, didn't even properly record my height on the after visit report which was generated in the 2 minutes it took me to walk to the elevator. Waste of money time and money, the last thing you want when you're in terrible pain is a horrible uncaring doctor like this.

Terrible bedside manner - generally very rude and unsympathetic. PA did tests and and then he came in and basically told me to F off and call another hospital

Twenty years ago I had a severe wrist fracture from a golf cart accident with mangled ligaments and tendons. (The steering wheel spun around while my wrist was in it). Dr Rettig did a 4 hour operation and stabilized my wrist externally, without putting in a plate. He was professional and caring. I’m not sure I would have had full use of my hand if it weren’t for Dr Rettig. Even my PT person said he was excellent. I recommended him to my cousin who also had a very positive experience and I would recommend him to anyone who needs an outstanding hand surgeon.. I

Rettig is a totally unsympathetic "doctor" who's perfectly content to make you live with lifelong pain. My right hand was broken in a criminal assault. It resulted in damaged ligaments and tendons that are painful and uncomfortable. And I'm a musician. Rettig wrote off the damage as "fascia" and refused to do anything. He didn't even order images. IE he simply told me to "Live with the pain". I have no fascia of any kind in the left hand. The damage is obviously not "fascia" which is why it is confined only to the right hand and the result of the injury that resulted from the assault. Rettig couldn't care less about the pain or fact that I'm a musician or the fact that it could be corrected with an easy surgery.

Saw Dr. Rettig twice in a month, and will not be back. Gave him the benefit of the doubt after the first visit bc he is also a Cornell Alum. The physician would benefit from reviewing the Press Ganey questions. Poor bedside manner and no stellar treatment or diagnosis (Listening to the patients helps with this). NYC has a plethora of fantastic hand specialists, and the patient has choices. The peripheral team, and front desk were fine.

Dr. Rettig provided me unnecessarily expensive service without first informing me of cheaper alternatives, or the potential cost. Was blind sided by a huge bill which insurance wouldn't cover because it was excessive. There were much cheaper options that could've done the job.

I was a patient of Dr. Reddiq. My first visit WAS HORRIBLE he looked crazy,angry and, he showed no empathy at all almost annoyed.HIS EYES LOOKED INSANE. I guess after so many patients.He lost his bedside manner..I went there in pain and very afraid. He only made my anxiety worse. I didn't want to get the operation, but, he personally called me to talk, and told me it would be a one inch scare and the operation would only take an hour . He lied. It was a 4 inch scare and the operation took over an hour.I also had a 4 inch plate with 6 screws in my wrist.HE DID SAY I would have a plate in my wrist, but not all the other He told me this right before my surgery and was not calming at all While waitng to be operated on. I sat in a little room. The aide gave me my hospital gown. Knowing I had a fractured wrist. She didn't even help me.. as I was alone. I went back to get my cast removed and he still acted robotic. I had to walk across the hall to see the nurse. She was so nice. As… I was walking out of her office, we passed each other the Dr. and me.He reach over and kissed my cheek. I was stunned and told the nurse or his female assistant, and she said your not the first one to tell me of a similar experience. The whole office needs to be retrained on how to treat patients except his nurse.........I guess the $60,000 dollars that my insurance paid might help with his retraining on how to treat patients.I will never recommend this Doctor. Since I have to give a star rating it would be -------------* MINUS ONE. I will say one good thing, my wrist is fine. In my opinion ,he needs psychological help.

Dr. Rettig is amazing. I broke my hand and, as a violinist, was very scared I'd never play to the same level again. I had a pretty nasty fracture that required pins be put in. From the outset Dr. Rettig was very reassuring and gave a lot of confidence that not only would I make a full recovery, but that it would take less time than I expected. He performed the surgery with minimal resulting downtime, and I had full use of my hand in no time. I'm playing violin just as before, with ZERO impact. Amazing given how bad my hand was. I strongly recommend Dr. Rettig.

Dr. Rettig is a great Doctor in every way. He is a very competent surgeon who truly cares about his patients.

its the second time i have gone to dr. rettig.....first the right hand and then the left. both were successful surgeries. A ery caring doctor.
