Dr. Michael David Ries, MD

Dr Reis put the wrong size rod in my hip replacement and fracture my femar very badly. He finished with my hip replacement and I went through recover when they decided to take an xray and noticed what they did. They should notice before closing me up. I know accident happen but he didn't admit to putting the wrong size rod in till after 2 years. To this day I still have issues with my femar and pain. I would not recommend going to him.

Dr. Ries did a revision on my knee replacement at UCSF which ended a long period of pain and injections. The previous surgery had been done by another surgeon and Dr. Ries went in and cleaned it up. He later did a total knee replacement for the other knee 5 years ago in Reno and I have had no pain at all with this replacement. I feel like he gave me my life back. I will always be grateful to him.

I was lucky enough to be referred to Dr Ries 2 years ago. Having experienced chronic pain for over 25 years and 5 surgeries on my hip, I was desperate to find a doctor who would treat me; especially after my previous doctor (who was very respected in his field....and told me so every chance he got) told me I would spend the rest of my life in pain. Dr Ries spent my first appointment actually listening to me and asking questions that no other doctor had ever asked. I knew I had hit the jackpot when I left my appointment. He has since performed a total hip replacement, along with another rare surgery on my hip. Although I'm still a work in progress, Dr Ries has promised me that we will see this to the end and that he's not going anywhere. I trust him implicitly. He has the most amazing bedside manner of any doctor I have met in my many, many years of medical issues. He thinks outside the box when every other doctor throws in the towel. I would recommend Dr Ries to anyone (and I… have!).

I suffered 17 years through 2 previous unsuccessful surgeries to my right knee (with great damage to my career); exhaustively searched for someone willing to undertake whatever it took (including removal of the limb); unforgiving constant pain with meds to keep that did little to help. I was amazed in an age of such technology, that my primary care physician & I we're unable to find someone 'brave' enough and 'confident' enough to undertake what might be yet a third procedure. Dr. Ries was that man. I am 1-yr post-op; the knee works great; I'm out of pain; and re-couping my life; worth the search!

Dr. Ries is an excellent doctor. Not only is he extremely skilled at his craft, but he is truly a kind and compassionate man. Once, when I had to have an injection prior to my surgery that unexpectedly caused me extreme discomfort, he was more distraught about the incident than I was. And, when we had success with the injection on my return visit, he was more relieved than I was. He cares about his patients as people and not just statistics to add to his CV. He is definitely worth going through the bureaucratic hospital system in order to become one of his patients.

Dr. Ries has an excellent reputation and it is probably worth going through what the office staff will put you through. Phone calls do not get returned after always having to leave a message on a machine. You have to call again and again. Ries is calm, listens carefully and is not anxious to bolt out of the door like one of the other doctors there.

Dr Ries is a god send after having 9 knee surgeries to try and correct what another surgeon had done he fixed my knee. He is probably the most caring doctor I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I was 45 yrs old when I first went to see him and was in need of a knee replacement. When no one else would listen he actually took the time to do so. I know a number of doctors that could take lessons from him. I tell anyone who ever says they are having knee problems to call his office he is simply the best!
