Dr. Michael Hugh Salter, MD

I have been very happy with Dr. Salter; I like his personality and he has diagnosed things I already had gone to urgent care abount and they did not find out what was wrong. However, the staff handling his office, med refills, appointments, etc., fall so far below my already low expectations that, at this point, I am considering getting a new primary care doctor. His staff NEVER answers the phone -- phone has even rung over 15 times and once I let it ring 32 times and no answer. They do not read the messages sent on the patient portal, because when they answer -- IF someone answers -- in most cases, it is obvious they did not read the message and it is has been auto-generated. I have left numerous voice mails and no one ever calls back. As of today, I am 10 days without a medication that was helping me tremendously and when I called again, got no answer at all, then called back and got voice mail.

Ask to see Dr Salter due to pain in left arm just to get his thoughts as he is my primary Doctor. Was told by Janice that was not possible he was busy with patients. Was given absolutely no consideration. Could not get an appointment until a week later.

My mom saw Dr. Salter for years but we finally convinced her to move in with us (out of state) because she was getting too old to care for herself. When my mom got a new physician in our area, we realized Dr. Salter had been neglecting so many things. Mom was always happy she got an A+ on her lab work but her new physician said her labs have been abnormal for a while now and he was shocked Dr. Salter did not address her labs as being abnormal. He also said that many of the medications she was on were not appropriate for her age and lab results and that he was shocked Dr. Salter ever prescribed them for my mom. My mom feels so much better now that some of those meds were stopped. My mom was also surprised at the level of evaluation she got from her new doctor. She rarely even had her lungs or heart checked when seeing Dr. Salter. If he did this to my mom, he is doing this to other patients. My advice is if you have an elderly family member seeing Dr. Salter, you get a second opinion on… the lab work and meds they are taking and make sure he is actually doing an assessment. Mom did mention that Dr. Salter’s nurse was really nice, but other then that Dr. Salter basically collected money and did not practice safe medicine.

He never seemed to know how to help me, or acted like he wanted to help. He never knew how to get test results from my cardiologist or from the hospital that he was affiliated with. I don't want to get started about his rude office staff. I had the flu shot, they told me my insurance would not pay. I offered to pay, and was told we will bill your insurance. Eventually I had to pay the bill. Needless to say, I found another doctor who is very caring, and knows what he is doing.

He never seemed to know what to do to help me. Don't get me started on his staff's incompetency.
