Dr. Michael Richard Silver, MD

Several years ago, I was dealing with a number of symptoms, including passing out, full body paralysis episodes, muscle weakness & tremors, extreme fatigue and many others. I was passed around from specialist to specialist, until being referred to Dr. Silver. at Emory. Initially, I met with a student resident, and he was very pleasant and listened well. After waiting a bit, Dr. Silver entered the room. He looked over my list of symptoms, asked me a couple of questions... no physical exam, no tests, nothing... looks me dead in the eye, and in the most condescending tone possible told me my symptoms were psychological. Needless to say I never returned to him. I was fortunate enough to move on to doctors that would listen, run the appropriate tests, and most importantly...CARE. I have since been diagnosed with over 15 things, including Andersen-Tawil Syndrome, Lyme Disease & several co-infections, Tachycardia, POTS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Raynaud’s, Cauda Equina Syndrome among… several more. I am on disability, which is NOT easy to obtain, especially if your illnesses are “all in your head.” Dr. Michael Silver has no business practicing medicine. He clearly has no concern for his patients. I wish I could give him 0 stars. I should have reported him to the medical board, and still might.

As a brief history, I've been experiencing jerky, spasmic-like involuntary movements for a year and a half that have progressively gotten worse and more frequent. The first appointment, I explained to him my symptoms and mentioned that these movements were violent. Even after telling him all of this, he proceeded to say, "Try not to think about it too much" and quickly labeled them tics. I thought that this was a strange, dismissive comment after I'd mentioned that these movements were violent and uncontrollable. Nonetheless, I decided to make a follow-up appointment thinking that maybe he had the better judgement (at that point they weren't as frequent as they are now). By the time of the follow-up, these movements had become a daily occurrence and were disturbing my sleep. He acknowledged this, but his response beared a striking resemblance to the one at the first appointment. He asked me, "Do you think you could just...live with it?" This solidified my impression of him as… dismissive and careless. He insisted that I didn't need to be on medication for it and that they were probably being caused by my antidepressant which he says was started the same time the movements occurred (which is not what I said, only that I started it the same year). I'd been taking other antidepressants long before these movements had occurred and never experienced these type of movements. He never asked me this and nonetheless proceeded to link my antidepressant with the tics without obtaining more information. My resulting impression of Dr. Silver is that he completely disregards your symptoms and seems reluctant to prescribe medication based on their severity. He would rather you suffer under his wait-it-out approach than order testing to rule out other possibilities or prescribe medication to control your symptoms. I will not be going back to Dr. Silver and I strongly recommend that you look for a doctor elsewhere that actually cares about you.

I have seen Dr. Silver three times in the past two years, and I have walked away from all three appointments with the same impression of him. He is dismissive and quick to label everything as psychological in basis. He has never attempted to help me with trying to figure out what’s going on and has zero interest in helping me. Most recently my husband, who is a doctor, came with me to my appointment because of my previous unfortunate experiences. My husband was shocked and told me that Dr. Silver was not interested in helping me. It’s time for me to find a new neurologist, but not from Emory because it’s a nightmare scheduling anything and communicating with doctors. I still can’t believe how terrible and frustrating my experiences have been with this doctor and Emory’s lack of quality patient care.

He does not listen to his patients. He did not order any test to help find out what was causing my migraines. Please do not waste your time. This doctor only cares about his check from Emory not your care.

I love the time Dr Silver takes and the fact that he listens My boyfriend was diagnosed with Parkinson's but after testing and evaluation he was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration which is in the Parkinson's family. He called in other physicians to evaluate him I love Dr. Silver. he came in in a wheel chair and now he at least can walk

Very personable and interested in my what I have to say. Willing to try new treatments. Extremely nice man.

I saw Dr. Silver for a year for migraines, and he refused to do any diagnostic testing to find out why I was having a sharp increase in severity and frequency. He only told me "these things happen with age" (I'm 30). He would rather push heavy duty medications than find out the cause of the migraines, and all I ended up with were horrible side effects that interfered with my job as a nurse, and I still had 3-4 migraines per week. When I called Emory to switch providers, they refused, saying it's their policy to not allow patients to switch doctors, but they didn't have a reason as to why that was a policy. I do NOT recommend getting stuck with Dr. Silver if you choose to use the Emory Clinic Neurology Department!

Doctor was nice and attentive. STAFF IS HORRIBLE! Be prepared to make several phone calls if you need help or have questions. Insurance was not filed in time for appt.

Dr. Silver is OUTSTANDING. I'm older and have seen a lot of doctors. I think Dr. Silver is the best in every category.

Dr. Silver takes times and listens very carefully to what you have to say. We really think he is a very caring and loving doc
