Dr. Michael Timothy Smith, PhD

I went through the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Michael Smith, a total of 4 or 5 sessions. Throughout these sessions he was absentmindedly oblivious when he wasn't late or didn't miss the appointment all-together. He made assumptions without ever asking me or listening to what I was repeatedly saying, or writing in emails. None of his suggestions worked I think primarily because he seemed to be living in his own mind, not listening to what I was saying. It's pretty clear to me now that he thought I didn't really have any issues. I desperately wanted this to work because I was fed up with my insomnia and gave this practitioner all the opportunities to help me. I bought any equipment that he suggested and followed the therapy the best I could. I had it with him finally when he started making suggestions that didn't make sense at all, not to me and not to the referring pulmonologist. Some examples of those suggestions: - Watching TV is ok when you can't fall asleep. The… opposite of this turned out to be the single biggest difference maker when I did resolve my sleep issues - on my own. - Get up from the bed and do something else even if you are awake for just 5 minutes. I hope he was just going through some issues himself because of shutdown and covid related craziness and that he is not really just a researcher who sees patients only because he has to. I had never expected such an experience with a Hopkins medical professional.
