Dr. Michael James Swaney, MD

I was a patient of his at st Simons hospital. He diagnosed me wrong and gave me the wrong medicine because he rushed talking to me. I could tell he didn’t care. The medication made me feel awful, I didn’t trust him after that. After 3 days going through hoops trying to talk to him, I told him I was ready to go. He said he wanted to keep me for a few days, but he couldn’t tell me why. Finally I told him a nurse had told me I could sign a paper that they have to release me within 48 hours as long as I wasn’t gonna harm myself or others. I thought it was reasonable because I saw someone else do it. He freaked out and said he would say I said I would harm and keep me a minimum of 72 more hours. He said “ you don’t appreciate what I’m doing for you?I’m taking all this time for you and you’re not gonna take it? “ he totally snapped and was totally unprofessionally going off on me. I apologized to calm him down and said I do appreciate you. He prescribed me more meds that of course made me… feel awful and drugged up again, but I acted like I was ok so I could go home after a few more days. Insurance ended up not covering those last few days because they said I should have been discharged and I didn’t need to be there. I told st Simons I’m not paying because I was forced to stay and I know I needed to leave. They said they’d take care of it, I still get bills in the mail. I had met my deductible at the time so I shouldn’t of had to pay out of pocket at all, but the bills are thousands of dollars. He needs to be held accountable for threatening me to lie and say I would harm like that, giving me strong meds without properly evaluating me, and forcing me to stay extra days. Those extra days were so hard, I was miserable. All my rights were stripped from me as an adult and I had to fake being ok for him to let me go. I hope more people speak up, cause he was keeping all his patients longer than they needed to probably to get more money for longer stay.

DR. SWANEY IS A RUDE PERSON. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO RATE HIM A ONE FOR ANYTHING, I'D GIVE HIM A ZERO FOR EVERYTHING. HIS STAFF IS JUST AS BAD ESPECIALLY WHEN I CALL IN TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. HE DOESN'T LIKE TO KEEP HIS APPOINTMENTS BECAUSE HE'S ALWAYS ON VACATION SO SEEING HIM IS HARD TO DO. PRESCRIPTIONS = HORRIBLE. WAIT TIMES ARE UP TO AN HOUR IF NOT LONGER.

Michael Swaney is not prepaired. He hurries through your appointment and could at times be rude regarding not silencing his phone. He makes you feel that he is better than you and belittles you. He also is not clear on his prescriptions.

Dr. Swaney is a very caring and conscientious Dr. He's also very thorough in researching a medication before writing me a prescription. I have the utmost confidence in him both as a psychiatrist and as a person.

the other 2 reviews must be family members , He is rude , and a terrible clock watcher. He cuts you off in the middle of a sentence and is constantly looking at that clock !! his staff is worse , perscriptions ; forget it !! his policy is to make you wait up to 2 weeks for a refill which he doesnt tell you about at your meeting and you are left in the cold . I would not recomend this doctor , look around on the web , im not the only one saying this .

I highly recommend him. He has an uncommon high devotion and concern, for all his patients, from my observations. He "gets" what your concerns.

He is very caring and very professional.
