Dr. Michael J Telch, PhD

He claims he’s a world renowned OCD specialist that knows how to get over OCD, however, did not help me get over mine. He also ethical and violates confidentiality. He has mood swings and has yelled in sessions, making me feel worse. He also crosses boundaries.

This doctor violates Hippa law and has outburst with his patient.

He doesn't just comfort and guide you to combat your anxieties. He also gives you the tools to combat them yourself, which has helped me throughout the rest of my life. Whenever my anxieties try to creep back in, I know how to fight them. I used to not be able to go outside because of my fear of germs. Now I work with kids who get boogers on me daily. Its scary to be told no one can solve your problems without yourself helping. That you have to go towards the thing you fear above all else. Maybe thats why people give him 1 star. Or it could be his style just isnt for them and they dont recognize that. No therapist is perfect for everyone. I do know though that he truly cares for his patients, and will go out of his way many times to help.

Like anything, people have strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps Dr. Telch excels for treating certain disorders, but in my case - not at all. When I was searching all over for help for SAD, his name came up as "the leading expert". So I traveled from another city to meet him. By this time I was educated about social anxiety. I wasn't completely in the dark. He seemed clearly focused on the rate to see him or a cheaper rate to see one of his grad students. I found him to be rude. Direct is one thing, rude is another. He told me I'd be cured of SAD in a matter of weeks because he'd have me standing up and giving presentations in front of people in no time. This is so often how people who've never had social anxiety, or therapists who read about a condition assume they understand it and assume that just by getting the patient to be able to do a certain behavioral thing, that they will be cured. Yet another "expert" who, in my opinion, truly failed to understand how to help someone… get out of SAD. At the time I was confused and it's tough to seek help for SAD to then meet with these types of therapists. Since that time I've gone on to overcome SAD, learn more about therapy, and be involved with work that directly relates to SAD. I can see now why and how he utterly fails to help this disorder, like many therapists unfortunately do. Though he'll always stand out on top of the rest as saying the most absurd things and being completely arrogant and rude about it. It takes a lot of effort for a SAD person to seek help, to even tell someone about it. If that person meets a Dr. Telch, it might be the last time they ever try. I hate to think of people who've paid money, trusted him to help them, failed - because they will not address SAD in full through his help - and most likely then assume that overcoming SAD is not possible. This is the damage that can be caused by arrogance and lack of true understanding of the disorder.

I could not get on a plane, but after doing his fear of flying where he took me and two others on a plane, I never had a fear of flying again. His special techniques literary stop my fear immediately and I never had a problem since. Also, I could not drive on the interstates and he went with me and did his magic after a few times, I have never had a problem again. He also helped with an OCD issue that I thought was impossible to get rid of. He really knows his stuff so any phobia you have he is your go to. Thank you Dr. Telch.

I suffered from severe agoraphobia for years and struggled to even understand what I was dealing with. I thought I was alone in it, and went from being extremely self-sufficient with a highly successful career, to not being able to drive or even live by myself. My fear of panic attacks was so strong, and this was exacerbated by a secondary health issue that caused fainting. I acknowledged that my fear of panic was the biggest problem holding me back in life, but was unable to find a good psychologist/practitioner to help me. After a few years of seeing various different psychologists who were unable to help me, I finally stumbled upon Dr Telch. At first, I thought he was a little bit abrasive, but I soon learned that he simply has a no-nonsense approach, and this actually really helped me in my recovery. No one has as much knowledge in the area of agoraphobia as he has, and he was able to push me to do the difficult things necessary to recover. He also gave me coping skills that helped… me to turn off the panic pathways in my brain and start to rewire things. The sense of peace I'm developing in my life is amazing...I never thought I'd feel this good again. I am finally getting my life back thanks to Dr Telch. He might be expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Had the misfortune of seeing him at Univ of Texas years ago. He is rude, insensitive, tremendous ego, and would have extreme mood swings. Terrible individual. Wouldn't let my dog see him.

Complete loser and terrible psychologist. Also a terrible person in general. Ridiculously overpriced. Told my 13 year old daughter that she was attractive.
