Dr. Michael A. Terry, MD

It has been 5 years since Dr Terry reattached my right bicep to my forearm after I tore it while lifting a heavy object. My fault and my age. The staff at NorthWestern could not have been more professional. Upon completing my surgery, Dr Terry came out and sat with my wife and explained how well the operation went. He answered her questions and offered her much needed relief. He was most kind and reassuring. Today, more than 5 years later, except for a small little 1 1/2” “L” shaped scar right inside my elbow, I would never know the event happened. I also attribute the success of the surgery to the PT work that ATHLETICO did in the following weeks after. Dr Terry was wonderful!!!

Doctor Terry is an excellent doctor and man with bedside manners. He has saved many people's life.

I went to Dr. Terry for a second opinion on an ongoing hip problem. I had 2 previous surgeries at a different hospital and nothing worked. Dr. Terry listened, took all the time I needed during appts and we came to the conclusion I needed another surgery. I have been so happy with the results and the care from his staff ecsp. his PA Michelle.

I'm an employee of another group of orthopaedic surgeons and we refer to Dr. Terry quite often as our physicians do not hip arthroscopy with Karbala repair. I was anxious when I got to the appointment however his office staff from registration through the fellow as well as the medical professional that roomed me was wonderful. I was in the room maybe 5 minutes before the fellow was in the room to examine me. Once the fellow was finished I waited at most 7-8 minutes and Dr. Terry came in the room he examined me and had already read my records and explained everything to me in detail. I feel that he was informative and helpful and prior to leaving the room asked if I had any further questions. He told me to call his nurse Sue Paul then next day to get scheduled. When I tried to call her to be honest she is a very busy lady however, on the first phone conversation she was cold and very business like with very little empathy for the pain I was experiencing. I got the number to the… precept girl named Andrienne and she was wonderful and most helpful. I explained my situation and she explained to me the process of getting the authorization and scheduling and I was then relieved Sue the nurse said it could be a month before we even get the authorization which put me in tears. I had been in pain for about 4 months and hadn't been able to get a full nights rest in about 2 months. I thank Andrienne from the bottom of my heart. I would recommend Dr. Terry to anyone who asked my opinion. I have been pain free since the surgery.

I have waited a long time to write a review. It is something that happened today that makes me want to write one now. I was put to sleep 4 times with getting my shoulder repaired. It was a problem after problem when I had to be brought back in for surgery, or shoulder manipulation like the last time. I went through Physical Therapy three times a week after the surgery. It just wasn't helping! I was repeatedly told by therapists that I have a pinched nerve causing one of the problems with pain. Dr. Terry had already told me that there was no pinched nerve. I have had trouble ever since, being almost two years since the surgery. I decided that I will have to live for the rest of my life with an arm that is frozen. I still after repeated exercises to this day trying to get my arm to go back to touch the back of my belt. I still can't do it and know it will probably never happen! Now.....I went in today to have an MRI at my local hospital because of a breast with multiple… cysts. This runs in my family with both grandparents with breast cancer before passing away. Problem.......during this MRI I was to lay on my stomach for 30 minutes with my arms over my head. I knew this was going to be a problem but had to try. It was within minutes that I was in terrible pain in my shoulder. I did everything I could to not have to come out of the MRI. I tried to ignore this severe pain but before long, I just couldn't handle it any longer and had to cancel the MRI! I let Dr. Terry know of all the problems that would not go away. It was treated like all it needed was time. How much time!???? Two years later my shoulder should not be so painful that I can't do a needed MRI test! Besides it being frozen most likely for the rest of my life, the thought that I can't even do the MRI to see if the cysts in my breasts are just like my grandparents who both had breast cancer. How could I not be upset after so much time thinking my shoulder was being fixed??? After continuing to let him know it is not alright, I only got the feeling Dr. Terry was done trying to help me any further. I could not get a response from his nurse, Susan Paul, who did what she could to help me, that would help the problem. I put zero blame on her!

Good experience overall I have had the most help and response from Sue Paul his nurse--unlike apparently other patients She is responsive and informative and helpful He was technically sound and diagnosed problem and offered solution and successful surgery although at start of rehab so we will see

Don't go to this guy! You will wait over an hour and a half past your appointment, everybody is rude, they truly treat you like a piece of garbage. You will be much better off going somewhere else because this place is absolutely terrible.

Dr. Terry and his staff are excellent. He did both of my surgeries.

This guy is nice and listens when you're in his presence, but he doesn't return calls, has horrible wait times and take zero personal interest in his patients...unless they play hockey for a big chicago pro team. My hip is worse after labrum surgery. This guy had NO recommendations for me. I had to find out what was out there so i could ask him. absolutely no value added. stay away.

This review is a little late but I guess late is better than never. I went to Dr. Terry based on a recomendation from another doctor plus the fact that he was the doctor for the Blackhawks. Needless to say it was probably one of the worst decisions I have made in my life. I was diagnosed with femoral acetabular impingement in my right hip plus I had a labral tear. Let's just say the outcome from the surgery was terrible. Dr. Terry did not follow-up with me after the surgery or come check on me in the hospital as I had to stay the night. Further he did not tell me the correct protocol to follow after my hip surgery. Because of the surgery he performed I had to have the entire surgery redone two years later with a couple of add-ons due to his lack of care. I wish I had gone to the surgery who performed my second surgery in the first place. The initial surgery was 14 years ago and I still have problems to this day because of what he did or rather what he did not do. I used to be… an athelete and work-out at least two hours a day. Well, because of the surgery I cannot due have the things I used to be able to do. Even walking long distances is still painful for me and you can forget running. I would not recommend him to anyone. And I agree with everyone who says that his nurse Sue is terrible.
