Dr. Michele Marie Johnson, MD

The admin assistance for Dr Michele Johnson hung up on me before I could ask all my questions. I thank God for not letting me waste my time in this office. You keep that rude admin assistant and I’ll take my 2 spine surgeries, my money, and my good insurance to a more caring, compassionate office. My advise… go elsewhere. This is after I left a message a week ago for an appointment with no call back. I chose Emory Healthcare. They were very professional answering all my questions and scheduling my second opinion appointment. It’s not hard to be nice to people but as a business I would be alarmed that an admin assistant treated a patient with potential revenue for the business poorly.

Dr. Johnson is the expert I needed. If I had 4 thumbs they’d all be up. She is amazing! I had a micro-discectomy surgery. She executed the procedure flawlessly. She treated me as an individual and was patient to assess everything and explain everything along the way - with thorough answers to all of my questions. Knowledgeable, professional, an excellent neurosurgeon and talks in a way that you can understand - plus a good sense of humor and genuine kindness. I encountered probably 50 people throughout the whole process: from her spine and back specialist office staff to pre-op, surgery nurses (Lanier and others), PAs, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, post op (Emily and others) and I give each and every person 5 stars out of 5. Piedmont Healthcare ATL gets a team win for this experience. Professional, courteous, caregivers - very efficient and attentive step of the way. This is what service and health care should look like!

I just saw Dr. Johnson today in the office. She is the best spine surgeon in Atlanta in my book. I went to her a few months ago in severe pain for over a year. I had seen other surgeons who couldn't find anything wrong me and sent me to pain management. My pain continued to get worse. My neighbor had surgery by Dr. Johnson last year with a similar issue and is now pain free and back golfing. Amazing!!! So, I made an appointment to see her. Her office staff was very caring and prompt in calling me back. Her PA Rick is wonderful! Dr. Johnson saw me herself on my first visit and spent over an hour with me discussing my problem and both surgical and non-surgical options in terms I could understand. She truly cares about her patients, which is rare to find in a surgeon (in my opinion). I was scheduled for surgery, which went great!!! I am now pain free like my neighbor and have gotten my life back. She is superstar!!! I would highly recommend her to anyone considering neck or… spine surgery

Unfortunately not a good review from me. I have 2 children with degenerated disks and fractured backs. I went to see Dr. Johnson on a visit for my daughter; waited 1 1/2 hours! Not one staff member offered an explanation or apology UNTIL I searched and sought after clarification...the reason- “there was an emergency”. I am a mother of 3 children and i understand emergencies, what i don’t understand or respect is the lack of efforts to communicate to a patient sitting in the office. The office staff did not have to make a phone call, they did not need to email or text; they merely had to walk down the hall and share information. I was given an apology and i moved on. I took my second child, again, i was sitting in the waiting room. After 40 minutes i asked how much longer. Now remember, they didn’t come to me; i went to them. I asked “how much longer”? Can you imagine my shock when they told me there were 4, yes 4 people still in front of us. Now this office is located in Atlanta, they… have the capability of emailing and texting me reminders of my appointment including the time, but she said they did not have the capability or the staff to let me know that they were running 2 hours late. I reminded her i did not need technology, i just needed them to walk over to me and communicate. Today’s excuse, “the x-ray machine was down”. I respect everyones time, and in return i expect the same. I understand things happen that can result in tardiness but people including doctors will treat people with only what people will allow. To many doctors in Atlanta for me to accept their disrespect. Good luck to all patients and I wish you all well. #backpainismiserable

After 2 past failed surgeries to fix the excruciating pain in my legs I was losing hope things would ever get better. But Dr. Johnson proved me wrong only a few days after the surgery she performed on me. She has an excellent bedside manner and friendly and efficient supporting staff, and I will always be grateful for how quickly and thoroughly she cured my pain.

Dr. Johnson is very unprofessional. she never follows up with urgent phone calls or messages sent through patient portal. Not very caring or responsive.

Often times, Dr. Johnson was very late to my appointments. On many occasions my appointments were her first of the day. She did place a defective patch in my head during my brain surgery. Her office nurse tried to remove my sutures with an unsterile safety pin. I did contract meningitis from that. I then had to endure three spinal catheter placements and another brain surgery. Needless to say, it was not a very good situation to be in. During one of my follow-up visits, she offered that we go for beer. I thought it was extremely unprofessional . She was my brain surgeon not my chum. All of this and more is a matter of record.

I love that I can talk to Dr. Johnson just as comfortably as my best friends. I do not want to be cut open ever again, but this woman has exclusive rights to this privilege if I need further surgery in the future.

I saw Dr. Johnson before I knew I had a tumor. As soon as she made her diagnosis, she scheduled me for pre-op and surgery within the next 10 days. I'm now writing this 2 weeks later without that disgusting thing in my spine. I'm so blessed I came across this incredible neurosurgeon!

I absolutely loved how Dr. Johnson cares about her patients. Especially my care. I would highly recommend her and her PA Joe Lamb.
