Dr. Michelle Y Francis, MD

I wouldn't go to anyone else! She is easy going, speaks very honestly as a Dr. should, isn't over the top by the book like most doctors tend to be, and is very easy to reach and talk to. She delivered my son and 7 years later I still go to her. I have recommended several people who LOVE her and are now patients of hers as well. Highly recommended!

Best doctor i have ever seen. She delivered my first daughter and helped me through fertility issues with my second (recommendations, personal phone calls, follow-up, etc.). Really fabulous OBGYN. I've been seeing her for close to 12 years and trust her implicitly.

Run, don't walk from this practice. They refuse to give you a direct line to the office. Wait time has been anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours, just to get taken back. They tell you to check "My Chart" online for results, but results don't get posted until the doctor looks at them. With Dr. Francis, this takes DAYS and DAYS. She doesn't return phone calls for days. Worst treatment ever.

When I read through the reviews here the discrepancy between 5 stars and 1 star makes a lot of sense to me. As an OBGYN I can see how Dr. Francis could be great. I loved her when I first met her. But this review is about my first pregnancy, where finding a doctor that you can trust, that you feel will support you and guide you and be there for you is essential. I was referred to Dr. Francis through a friend and while what everyone says about the obscene wait and incompetency of her office is true, when I found out I was pregnant I really wanted a doctor that I was familiar with and felt comfortable with to help guide me through the process. My goal was to have as natural a birth as possible and making decisions regarding NY hospitals is overwhelming and intimidating. For the most part my visits during my pregnancy went well but at 35 weeks to the day, at home from work on a snow day, my water broke in my apartment at 3:45pm. Needless to say I was terrified. I had read some… birthing books and attended a birthing class but had no idea what a labor this premature could mean. The one thing that stood out in my head was don't panic don't panic, if you panic you make the labor worse. But if my water had broken was he coming? Was something wrong? How could I know? Right away I called Dr. Francis' office. It was 3:50pm on a Thursday and no one picked up the phone. I called back and nothing. I called again and again and again and again. My husband called. I called the emergency line. I pressed all the buttons I could press and nothing. It's now 4:30. I'm pacing my apartment waiting for my husband to come home with water still pouring out of me (again, 5 weeks early) and nothing. I'm trying desperately not to panic; not to be afraid, because it's the one thing I know in a whirlwind of unknowns. I finally get an operator at 4:40. They take my phone number and tell me someone should call me back within 20 minutes. At 5:00 my husband has come home and as we are trying to pack a hospital bag I see a missed call. With so many people calling it must have gone straight to voicemail. I get a message from Dr. Francis that says "Hey May, so if you think your water has broken you should probably just head on in to the hospital so that it can be confirmed or denied. I'll try you again in 5 minutes." She never calls back. We keep calling the office but no one picks up. Not the main line, not the emergency line, no one. Finally, halfway through an hour long cab ride at 5:30 an operator picks up and says that Dr. Francis has gone home for the day and when I get to the hospital I should look for Dr. Choo. When we arrive at St. Lukes Roosevelt my contractions are about five to ten minutes apart but are mild and inconsistent. I ask to use the bathroom and a nurse follows me in to confirm that my water has broken. Soon after that I am ushered into a hospital room and introduced to a nurse and a resident doctor who tells me I am four centimeters dilated. The rest of the evening is a bit of a blur. Doctors and nurses came and went but no one I had ever met or spoken to before that day. My baby boy was born at 12:52am, 5 weeks early, 5 lbs and 12 oz and perfectly healthy. Dr. Choo was kind and helpful and did a wonderful job delivering my baby, but I never heard form her or spoke to her again. I never heard from anyone or spoke to anyone in the office again. No one from the practice ever contacted me to check in on me or my baby's health and wellbeing. I had my 6 week visit at a local doctors office in Brooklyn because I couldn't even fathom stepping into a room with Dr. Francis and having a rational conversation. My disability papers were signed, my paperwork was faxed but I have had no further contact with Dr. Francis or her office. All in all I feel nothing short of lucky and grateful to have a healthy baby boy. However, it would have taken no more than 5 minutes of Dr. Francis' time to alleviate my fears, provide comfort and support in a moment that for me, was terrifying. Because why else do we spend so much time building a relationship with a doctor during pregnancy? I understood that Dr. Francis herself might not be there for the birth of my child, but I did expect to at least be able to reach her. To reach anyone. To have someone from the office where I had spent so much time give me some guidance and tell me not to worry.That someone was looking out for us. My experience with Dr. Francis and her office, her lack of regard for my wellbeing, safety and peace of mind, left me frustrated and furious. But in the end, what I really feel looking back is sad. I have heard such wonderful stories from my friends who have maintained such strong and supportive relationships with their doctors even after their child's birth. Doctors that stopped by to check in, who called to check up and who made their patients feel like this experience they shared mattered. I wish that I could say the same.

Dynamic Personality and bedside manner that puts you at ease. Excellent in making an appropriate diagnosis and prognosis. Provides realistic options that include the benefit and limitations to arrive at an educated decision about your health care. I highly recommend her.

I love Dr. Francis. I have been a patient of hers for almost 10 years. The wait time is not the greatest (10-20 minutes); but its because she takes her time with each and every patient. I love her so much that I have now started taking my teenager daughter to see her yearly. Since my daughter is 14 and not sexually active she just talks to her and lets her know she has a safe haven should she become sexually active. It puts my mind at ease knowing she will give my daughter the care and concern she has shown me for the past 9-10 years.

While I think Dr. Francis is a professional and courteous doctor, unfortunately, her support staff is unhelpful and rude. Each time you call to make an appointment you will be put on hold for at least 7 minutes. At which point you will get an unfriendly receptionist who seems to believe that she is doing you a favor by picking up the phone. Because Dr. Francis is so wonderful I continue to go to the office, however, she would be wise to take a careful look at the outward facing individuals who represent her.

Dr. Francis delivered my baby at St. Luke's Roosevelt hospital this Febrary, 2012. My OB finished call just three hours before and I got stuck with Dr. Francis. She did not take ANY care and precaution for my perineum and I ended up with fourth degree lacerations through both vagina and rectum. She removed my baby with a vacuum and now my child suffers from torticolis sustaining injuries to the ligaments around her T-3. My baby's heart rate dropped quite low and they were "panicked" to get her out. But after reviewing the actual heart rate monitorings she could have slowed down and taken time to get my baby out In a more appropriate manner. Her bedside manner was aggressive and egotistical. She walked in the door and I could tell she just chose not to like my husband and me. The intern she was "teaching" during my birth had a few looks of concern on her face as my violent and barbaric birthing was aggressively lead by Dr. Francis. I have contemplated suing.

You never wait less than one hour at this office and the desk staff are generally rude (not all of them). Dr. Francis is great though, kind and smart. The hassle of dealing with this office though is going to make her lose patients.
