Dr. Michelle Williams Schofield, MD

Dr. Michelle Schofield truly believes in advocating for total body wellness for patients suffering with debilitating depression and anxiety. Too often, physicians exclusively offer medications to manage these conditions without considering the overwhelming side effects. Thus, Dr. Schofield offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as a non-medicinal method for totally eradicating depression and anxiety. In addition, Michelle Schofield, MD, believes that having a positive outlook can be extremely beneficial for patients during cancer treatment. "Mental health is so vital to help improve emotional well-being so patients can dedicate their efforts to getting better," says Dr. Schofield, a psychiatrist with Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern). Dr. Schofield received a bachelor of science in biology from Howard University in Washington, DC, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude. After earning a manga cum …laude medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, she completed a residency in adult psychiatry at Emory University in Atlanta. At CTCA, Dr. Schofield will be providing one-on-one medication management, as well as intensive individual therapy. Prior to joining Southeastern, Dr. Schofield worked as a staff psychiatrist for a local Atlanta hospital, and opened her own private practice. A member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Georgia Psychiatric Association, Dr. Schofield won the Meharry Medical College Department of Psychiatry Award in 2003 and a Meharry Medical College Scholarship for Excellence in 2002. She was the keynote speaker at Spelman Colleges Mental Health Awareness Week and was part of the mental health lecture series at Emory University, numerous other speaking engagements. Working with cancer patients has always been important to Dr. Schofield, as a few of her relatives have personally battled the disease, including two who treated at CTCA. This and the fact that CTCA puts such a strong emphasis on patients needs are what attracted Dr. Schofield to working with Southeastern. Dr. Schofields enjoys spending free time with family and watching her eight-year-old daughters extra-curricular activities, as well as reading, exercising and relaxing. She also has a passion for working with the underserved population pertaining to the treatment of their mental health concerns.
