Dr. Milan Shah, MD

I had a retinal detachment on a Saturday and was told by an emergency room eye specialist that sight would probably not return to that eye. I have a profound hearing loss and work full-time at a major pharmaceutical company and have a teenage daughter. No doctor would see my right away but Dr. Shah fit me in. The surgery was a success and sight fully returned to my eye. I did have a scary instance with something floating in my eye. I emailed him 5:30 in the morning. He immediately emailed back and fit me that day, even though it was a surgery day for him. I see some people are upset about the wait time. This is because he is an amazing doctor and makes time for everyone. It is clear that he is working all waking hours, because he has a gift and can help so many people. He is efficient and kind in the way that he treats his patients but he made time for all my questions every visit. And I always come with a long list of questions. He was extremely compassionate when I went… with the scary issue with my eye and put me immediately at ease. When I had my surgery, there were patients there for all across the Midwest. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate to have such an amazing doctor close to where I live.

Today was my first visit with Dr. Shah. Each staff member was so kind and explained in detail what I was having done. I was treated with so much compassion and like a commodity like in some other offices. I received the most thorough eye exam and consultation that I have ever had - and I have had many from several offices around the state this past 12 months. I highly recommend Dr. Shah and his staff.

My last Eye Doctor believed that a good bedside manner improved patient outcomes. I don't disagree. When looking for someone to put my retina back on my eye I prefer technical skill to bedside manner. There is a culture difference but all questions are answered. My outcome was excellent. Last Doctor had weekend on call coverage,but no one would come into the office. This Dr. showed up on Sunday to examine me and had never met me before. Saved my eyesight. Complain about wait times or interpersonal manner all you wish. When you are blind your idea of what is important changes quickly. I'll wait as long as it takes

All he's after is MONEY!!! I've had two surgeries with no success from either one. He's a joke and needs to find a new line of business

Altho Dr Shah is pleasant enough, he is not personable. He does what he needs to do, and that't it. He doesn't explain what he is doing, you have to ask about everything. The waiting time is awful. Expect at least a 2 hour wait, sometimes more. I will never understand why that is. I've been going to him for more than 3 years without much improvement. I know he has helped others tho.

I went to Dr. Shah for consultation and second opinion after my current ophthalmologist diagnosed a hole in retina. While examining for the hole, Dr. Shah detected a fresh tear in the retina, which could have led to detachment. He immediately performed the laser surgery to prevent further tear. I am very thankful of his thorough examination and preventing what could have become disaster and loss of vision. My confidence level in his ability and excellence has grown tremendously especially when most doctors forced to skim through multiple patients at a time. Thank you Doctor Shah for saving my eyesight.

This doctor has no bedside manner and is very rude

hporrible just horrible, wait was horrible, facility waw horrible, doctor was horrible, and his ladies who worked with him are rude and couldn't anaswer any questions about anything need to train staff better

Although the staff was courteous, Dr. Shah was aloof and uncaring. During my appointments, he would repeatedly go to the door and deal with other situations and then forget where he was with me. After doing an extremely painful emergency repair of my retina tear where I sat on a stool upright with no back support and endured the surgery without as much as an aspirin, he directed me to sit in the waiting room of the building until I felt I could drive. He informed me that the building closed at 8:00. It was 6:30. I drove home and climbed into bed in a fetal position and tried to calm myself. In subsequent appointments, he was calloused and told me I would have to deal with the debris left in my eye. I could not see out of that eye due to the debris and the repair scar. He then said see me in 6 months. I made an appointment with my regular eye doctor who sent me to a retina specialist where he immediately did surgery to correct my situation. I have waited almost two years to… write this as it has been a long recovery period. I can now see with minimal damage as my retina specialist scraped the scar tissue left by Dr. Shah. Dr. Shah actually yelled at me during the initial laser surgery saying that I was "trying too hard". The nurse was quite kind and repeatedly said she was so sorry after the surgery. I was probably the youngest patient there and I continued to work during my recovery period. I am getting accustomed to my new "normal" that all began with a botched repair of a torn retina by Dr. Shah.
