Dr. Mirna Fovad Barakat, MD

Dr. Barakat has awesome beside manners, she really cares about her patients. I am honored to have her as my rheumatologist.

She is a very thorough, nice person

My former rheumatologist retired. Dr. Barakat was referred to me by my physical therapist. At my first visit, she was very thorough. Took time to answer my questions, went over my meds and past tests. At a later time, she called me after hours to explain why she had not refilled a certain medication. I am impressed with her competency and care. However, I am not impressed with the patient wait time nor her assistant. I have had to wait over an hour each time and the assistant is certainly not personable. She needs better help.

This physician is ultimately held back by the other “physician” in her office. I assume this is her spouse. She is thorough and worth the 1-2 hour wait. She doesn’t rush you through your visit. She has called me from her personal phone during after hours and has worked me in the same day during a flare. She does not have the office support that is equivalent to her needs when it comes to knowledge of her specialty. She has a staff that is knowledgeable on excuse making and condescending apologies for trivial errors. Everything is outdated in this office and severely cluttered. A fire martial would shut it down immediately. The staff appears exhausted and under appreciated and definitely unhappy. The male doctor seems to be the one that maintains what appears to be a prison. It’s gloomy and dark. The only light within this office his Dr Mirna Barakat herself. In all the many years I’ve been seeing this physician, she has had 1 nurse that actually knew what she was doing,… seemed to be happy when working, and what appeared to be a great assistant to Dr Mirna Barakat. I have not seen her since 2013. Truthfully, when her assistant left or was fired ( patients have been told different things), the confidence in this Office deteriorated for me. I haven’t had a positive experience since then. Dr Mirna Barakat, if you see this, your value is depleted because of your environment and the people who are running your office. You deserve so much more and could be even greater if you had better support. The office would be easily overlooked if you had the staff to compensate for the disgust. I stay your patient because you are gifted. I don’t refer others because I don’t want the responsibility of having to explain the mess you are stuck in.

I think I started seeing Dr. Barakat in 2005 and have been pleased with all my treatment and her recommendations over the years. She listens, is detailed and looks for ways to handle my problems as they arise. My Lupus is in remission because of her care.

After my first appt I felt hopeful. Her questions were thorough as well as her exam. The next appt(s) I wondered if I had walked through the the door of a completely different dr. She was short, rude, had no opinion on how to treat my illness and so did not treat it! Believe me I could negatively go on and on but I won't. You get the gist I'm sure. Don't waste your time w her. I've been ill for many years, saw many doctors for treatment or because my husband had to move to a different city. My input is this; don't waste your time.

The dr. Is a pleasant woman. Her staff is pleasant on the phone but follows though with little. My disability papers were lost my her and/or her staff TWICE and then she wanted to charge me for signing them. I had already filled them out for her. I don't have a lot of confidence. Maybe I was spoiled by my rheumatologist up north.

I thought I would try this doctor after being told she is one of the best. I could not disagree more. Putting aside the ridiculous wait time of over an hour and the poor bedside manner, I have had nothing but a bad experience with the doctor and her team. I have worked at a doctors office for many years and have a mother who is a RN for over 25 years. I understand the many issues that come with a doctors office and usually stick up for the doctors and nurses. This office has no excuse to take over 2 months to give me my test results, that were in fact abnormal. I followed up after a week of visiting the lab. I have followed up every week for over 2 months...had the lab fax my lab work several times. I have watched the lab fax over the lab work and be given the confirmation page. There was no excuse. Finally, today I receive the phone call from Dr. Barakat, who read my lab work over the phone to me. She let me know of the findings, then before I could utter a sound. Her words, "Have a… good day", and hung up! No explanation of what I do with my abnormal results...no time for me to ask a question. Do I really feel like calling back...after I call every week? Totally hurt, upset and honestly angry. There is no care at all from this doctor and her team. No care for my health and no care for my emotions. Worst doctor I have ever encountered or worked with. I could handle a long wait and a bad bedside manner if she was a good doctor.

I was most impressed about Dr. Barakat actually listening to what I had to say. She was thorough and is not rushing to make a diagnosis without all the information. I expected to have more test done, that's part of going to the doctor. However, she suspects several or multiple things wrong. She did NOT automatically put me on medicine! I love that she is doing what is expected from a doctor. The staff were very nice.
