Dr. Morgan Naichi Chen, MD

I was referred to Dr. Chen for chronic cervical pain sustained from an injury years ago. I have never had such a good experience with a physician as I did with Dr. Chen. He will sit with you for as long as needed to explain every single detail of what’s going on in your body.. Once my MRI results came in, we determined surgery was needed. I went into this fully trusting dr. Chen. Before my surgery, he once again sat and explained to my husband and sister, every detail of what would be done, and once again left us feeling completely confident and educated.. his bedside manner creates such a calming and confident affect that I had zero nerves going into surgery. The most amazing part of all this is I woke up in postop and for the first time in a very long time my arms and hands were not in pain and they weren’t numb. It actually caused me to cry.. I am currently six weeks postop and doing amazing. If I could give Dr. Chen a 10 star rating, I would. I have had several surgeries in my… life and I have never encountered a physician/surgeon as wonderful as Dr. Chen.. It must also be said that the nurses he works with hold him in high regard, and he treats them with kindness and respect. I witnessed the way he speaks to his staff, which is also something I’ve never seen before. He is just a kind and skilled surgeon..

I hugged Dr. Chen at my husband’s follow up procedure after back surgery. He had my husband walking and pain free right after surgery. My husband picked up a folding table and hurt his back, it got worse each day until I just had to take him to the hospital. (Big mistake, they just gave him drugs.) Took him to our GP who gave my husband steroids (which helped a little). After suffering through the weekend in severe pain and unable to walk or sit I found an amazing chiropractor Dr. Rulli (through a Facebook post), he quickly diagnosed my husband and got us in touch with Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen and his office got an MRI approved right away which proved that both Dr. Rulli and Dr. Chen were correct with their diagnosis. My husband needed a laminectomy of his spine. The pre op was scheduled the next day and my husband was in surgery for Dr. Chen’s next surgery day. I was so nervous moving so quickly but Dr. Chen assured me that the faster we move the better his recovery. Dr. Chen took the… time to explain everything to us and even took the time to get to know us. The night before surgery Dr. Subbaiah called my husband letting us know that he will be assisting Dr. Chen and to see if we had any questions. The surgery day both doctors came to see my husband along with a neurologist, anesthesiologist and an amazing staff of nurses at St. Charles Hospital. After surgery my husband’s back and leg pain were gone, he was able to sit, stand and walk! He was a little sore after the anesthesia wore off but after two weeks he felt amazing! I also have to mention Dr. Chen’s, Dr. Subbaiah and Dr. Rulli’s staff and nurses. They answered all of my questions, got things scheduled and helped with paperwork. I am truly grateful for all of these amazing, caring and knowledgeable people. I posted about my husband’s recovery on Facebook and it’s amazing how many know and have been healed by Dr. Chen, Dr. Subbaiah and Dr. Rulli. Again, I am truly, truly grateful and highly recommend these doctors.

I have never written about a physician before now and I know people read these because I do too. However, I also know no one wants to read a crazy lengthy opinion either. So let me say, I went to Dr. Chen bent over, barely able to walk. He took the time to explain to me exactly what was causing my pain (Degeneration, spondylosis and herniation) and what needed to be done. I wound up needing surgery to correct my chronic spinal issues. On the day of surgery, he greeted and reassured me. Dr. Chen did an outstanding job! I was able to stand up straight and walk (with a walker) the day after surgery. I am now just a little over three weeks post-surgery and am walking very well. I even attended a fundraiser two weeks after surgery (alternating sitting & walking). All my friends were pleasantly surprised to see me there and I was super happy I could make the event. All in all, Dr. Chen is an outstanding surgeon. In addition, Dr. Sathish Subbaiah and Dr Danielle Zick were also… wonderful. I highly recommend Dr Chen and his team to anyone who needs a highly skilled surgeon!

Dr. Chen is a fantastic doctor. My husband had a spine surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC initially. It was not good and the previous doctor used antiquated techniques that were not up to today's modern standards. My husbands back continued to get worse....and then we met Dr. Chen who turned everything around. Dr. Chen took time to carefully explain all the issues and how he was going to correct them. He was informative, compassionate, and truly a pleasure to deal with. But best of all, he fixed my husbands back and finally, after years of pain and bad doctors, my husband is on the road to recovery and a better quality of life. And one more good thing, we didn't have to travel all the way into NYC to get a top notch, high level doctor. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Chen and if I could give him 10 stars, I would. Thank you Dr. Chen!

I am a healthy, energetic woman who walked daily, attended Pilates classes twice a week, and in general lead a healthy lifestyle. Much to my chagrin, and over a period of time, my feet started to get numb after 5-10 minutes of walking, and I needed to hold on to something or someone or I would have toppled over. I tried every non invasive treatment including epidurals, but nothing helped. I was very nervous about “fusion” spine surgery that had been described to me as it requires a large incision, a hospital stay, and a long and painful recovery. My stenosis and arthritis was severe, but Dr. Chen’s explanations and kind demeanor put me at ease. He was able to cure me by performing a laminectomy, and the incision was only 2 inches long! The laminectomy was on L2-L5, and I went home that same afternoon! My recovery from surgery took one week, and after that I was out walking. I have never again experienced numbness. In addition, I can add that I have no scar; Dr. Chen’s surgical… ability is masterful!

Dr Chen performed lamenectomy and discectomy on my L3&4. You want the best Dr who doesn’t treat you like a number this is your guy. If you want your run of the mill dr go elsewhere. His bedside manner and surgical skills are exemplary. 1.5 weeks post op, My nerve and back pain is gone and I’m walking normal again. Couldn’t be happier with Dr Chen and my surgical outcome especially since I had my reservations going through this as anyone would be having any type of surgery. Can’t say enough about Dr Chen and his entire team.

I just had my one year follow up with Dr Chen yesterday and couldn't be happier with my results, I am pain free and have my normal life back after being in pain down both of my legs for a very long time! Anyone thinking of spinal fusion should go see Dr Chen and his PA, David Cesarino and you will feel safe and comfortable from day one! Thank you to everyone in the practice!!! I have sent co-workers and a neighbor to them and they all had excellent outcomes as well!

Perfect doctor with perfect care. No stone unturned.

Chiropracty, accupuncture, physcial therapy, 2 lumbar epidurals, and finally a 1 hour surgical procedure that gave me back my ability to enjoy my life. I was admitted at 6AM and was out of the hospital at noon. Within 1 1/2 weeks I was totally pain and medication free. My preconceived and outdated idea of spinal surgery was eased after diagnosis and conversation with Dr. Chen. And while I was still somewhat sceptical, I really had not recourse. Pain as ruling my life. No more!

Not easy getting an appointment. Otherwise Dr Chen gets a stellar review in every category. I've had two spinal surgeries and would have no one else touch me but him.
