Dr. Motasem M Afyouni, MD

The title says it all. He is in this for money & not patient care.

It is hard to tell even after a couple of years how focused Dr. Afyouni is on the well-being of his patient. He seems very intelligent, very competent, a good physician. But is he a great physician and a very good man? Does he take deep responsibility for his role, giving the very best considered direction and advice for each patient? Time will tell. He is pleasant, a good guy, but of course his patients rely on him for so much more than that. Time will tell.

I would not recommend Dr. Afyouni. He gave me misinformation on at least 3 occasions and once gave me a corstisone shot in my hip even though he said, "I don't think I have the right needle" - and he didn't. He prescribed the wrong dosage of a painkiller and also prescribed muscle relaxants that had a high probability of causing hallucinations when mixed with another medication I was taking. I did have horrible hallucinations and when I called to tell him, he said very rudely, "Well stop taking the muscle relaxants!" He had a very rough/coarse way of handling me physically and I did not like it at all.

Something wrong with him. Most diagnoses are wrong according to 2nd & 3rd opinions. Screwed up prescriptions 4 months in a row.

Nurses very competent, general office staff pleasant, billing personnel brusque and humorless.

Dr. A is so kind and caring. Takes time to listen, doesn't cut you off. Empathizes with your situation(s). Even called me at home to express his condolences when he found out my mom passed away unexpectedly when I forgot my appt and called to reschedule. Excellent bed side manner - so funny, down to earth, and caring.

Very knowledgeable and positive. Will call patients with test results (if not discussed in office visit), will personally talk with patient if a referral is needed or a real problem is observed, will see patients in the hospital, and will question and listen.
