Dr. Mrinal M. Gounder, MD

two surgeons told me that i need an amputation of my entire arm for a desmoid tumor. dr. gounder put me on a pill chemotherapy medication and i have entirely avoided this life altering amputation. agree with reviews below. tough to get an appointment with him (i had to wait for 2 months), but glad it all worked out.

I got diagnosed with a "sarcoma" in 2015 and was getting a lot of chemotherapies which were making me sick and not helping my tumors. I was told that I should look into hospice. My wife saw on Facebook that someone went to see him and had good results. Went to NYC all the way from LA and boy am I glad. He did genetic sequencing of my sarcoma and found a mutation. I am now on a targeted therapy for over 3 years and finally living my life. He is God sent. God Bless you doc.

Took wonderful care of my mother till the very end. Was honest from day 1 about the poor prognosis but gave it his best with chemo and many clinical trials. She got a good four years from diagnosis (we were told the average for sarcoma is about 18 months). My mother felt very comfortable and confident with Dr Gounder and she died a peaceful death. Sarcoma really sucks but it’s good to have this amazing doctor on our side. God Bless him and his great team of nurses. If you can get him you are lucky.

My Husband was diagnosed with Aggressive Type of Sarcoma stage 4 in 2011 and was treated in famous hospital under the care of one famous doctor.He had 5 Surgery Chemotherapy and radiation.After a year of treatment they left the case and said go home there is nothing to do anymore.with great difficulty we got an appointment with DR gounder.After seeing all the document he said i want all the previous treatment history.He gone thru with all the details and discussed with his team and started a trail chemo.To big surprise after one chemo only all the tumor in lungs shrinked.He said one more and then we will stop.It was in 2012.He is fully Recovered from his disease and it is now 6 years he is healthy and working.He is a great doctor,simple and understand your pain and agony ,listen with lot of patient.

inconsiderate, does not respect the patient, arrogant skirts around the diagnosis. I have been seeing dr Gounder for almost one year now and still no official diagnosis, as I sit here waiting for a new kidney ... i am just frustrated at his procrastination and refusal to contact me directly

Dr Gounder spent over an over hour answering all my questions and going through my entire medical history and coming up with a half a dozen more treatment options that none of my other doctors had even mentioned. Compassionate, great listener and amazing bedside manners and called me a week later to follow up. Well worth the trip from Oregon. Highly recommend to see him and would request Dr Gounder if you are trying to get into Sloan.

I have been Dr. Gounder's patient for just under 3 years and during this time he has worked diligently and expeditiously to help me fight an extremely rare type of sarcoma. I can truly say that I believe I am alive today because of him. He has always taken the time to answer all my questions and I have never felt rushed. I am completely confident in his ability and knowledge. He is the best in his field and I feel so lucky and grateful to have him.

Out of desperation we turned to Sloan Kettering and found Dr. Gounder. He did genetic testing of the tumor and found a mutation and started my husband on a drug that targets the mutation. Within days of starting the drug my husband felt great and his first scan showed that all his tumors are shrinking!! That was three years ago and my husband is now in remission and back to work. My family can never thank him enough for his brilliance, persistence and compassionate care. You can't go wrong, trust me.

Inconsiderate, abrupt, detached, all-knowing, lacks caring and bedside manner. His residents have better skills than him. He belongs in a research lab making discoveries, not working with people who need care and attention with their deadly serious health maladies. Find another doctor.

An amazingly empathic, incredibly experienced doctor.. The way Dr explained relentlessly to every single question we had was very much appreciated!!
