Dr. Mudappa Karineravanda Kalaiah, MD

I am a current patient of Dr. Kalaiah and remain frustrated by his reviews. Before you believe one-star reviews, I urge you to step back and critically examine what you're reading. When you read these one-star reviews closely, you’ll notice a pattern: (1) The reviewers don’t describe unsafe care or medical errors. (2) Reviewers describe being frustrated that Dr. Kalaiah wouldn’t manage non-rheumatologic issues. (3) Reports often admit Dr. Kalaiah told them directly that certain concerns weren’t part of his specialty. (4) Many are upset because Dr. Kalaiah did not validate every complaint or continue unnecessary appointments for stable disease. These are not reports of malpractice or negligence. These are emotional reactions to receiving medically appropriate care. Medical treatment requires limits and a rheumatologist is part of a care team, not the only responsible person for systemic health problems. No physician can safely practice medicine by treating every symptom outside their… specialty just because a patient wants them to. The reality is that rheumatology is one of the most difficult specialties in all of medicine. These diseases are complex, unpredictable, and lifelong. The rheumatologist’s job is not to solve every symptom a person reports but to manage the specific autoimmune disease based on evidence and safety. That means sometimes telling patients that certain concerns, like hair loss or pain unrelated to inflammation, fall outside of rheumatology or require the patient to do some of the work with making an appointment with another specialist or their primary care physician. This is not rudeness. That is responsible and well-directed care. The public rarely sees the full context. Most patients seeking rheumatology care have waited months to even get an appointment. As of 2025, the shortage of rheumatologists is projected to leave some regions with fewer than one rheumatologist for every 100,000 adults. The recommended ratio is one per 10,000. The shortage is worsening as the population ages, autoimmune diseases increase, and more providers retire or reduce their hours. See attached for source. Public and uninformed reviews like these only worsen access for everyone. Good specialists leave when faced with unfair personal attacks that do not capture the entire context, and patients are left with longer wait times or no care at all. Dr. Kalaiah has been careful, ethical, and fully within the standards of his specialty in my care. His responsibility is to practice safe medicine, even when that means delivering difficult truths in a way that may violate lofty and entitled expectations. I urge anyone reading these reviews to think carefully. Frustration does not equal wrongdoing or poor medical care. We need more respect for the difficulty of this specialty, not fewer doctors willing to do the work. Candidly, to the one-star reviewers: you don’t get to turn your lowbrow disappointment into a public problem that makes it harder for the rest of us to get necessary care.

He was rude and very disrespectful..I have never left a drs office crying because of the way I was treated.

Rude, disrespectful, believes what others tells him and not I was telling him. I personally want a doctor who can think for himself. His nurse was beyond rude. Not to mention I had to wait for over an hour to be treated this way.
