Dr. Nancy Cho Landay, MD

How do you give zero stars? This was, without question, the worst medical experience I've ever had. I found a lump and was referred to this surgeon for a biopsy. The biopsy, performed in her office, confirmed that I had breast cancer. When I asked if I needed to see an oncologist, she told me the tumor was so small that I wouldn't need chemotherapy and did not refer me to one. Thankfully, I ignored that advice and had my PCP refer me to an oncologist. Additional testing ordered by my oncologist revealed that my tumor had a high risk of recurrence, and I did need chemotherapy. They also discovered that I carry a newly identified genetic mutation, along with my strong family history, which significantly changed my treatment plan. Had I simply accepted her opinion and not sought an oncologist, I would not have received the testing or treatment that my cancer required. What was most shocking was her reaction when my oncologist ordered additional tumor testing. She laughed and… questioned why those tests were being done. Those results ultimately guided my treatment. In my opinion, she has a God complex. Surgeons perform an essential role, but oncology treatment decisions belong with oncologists. Patients deserve a physician who recognizes the limits of their specialty and refers appropriately. I cannot recommend this doctor. Please advocate for yourself and always seek appropriate specialist care.

I have been treated by Dr Landay for breast cancer and she is the best! She explained everything, I didn’t feel rushed, and is very caring.

This doctor is extremely incompetent and has horrible people skills. Would never go to see her again and working in the healthcare field, I would advise my co-workers not to refer their patients to her. Horrible experience overall.

She was the first surgeon I saw for lumpectomy and cancer diagnosis. She informed me and my husband that I would be lucky if I could reconstruct, that I would "lose everything" (meaning all breast tissue, skin, nipple) and would need chemotherapy. We were wrecked. A few days later, we went for a second opinion at Mass General. I did NOT need chemo. They were able to do my mastectomies and reconstruction with skin and nipple-sparing surgeries. They were compassionate and still direct, unlike Dr. Landay. I now work with cancer patients in an exercise program, and I have heard her referred to as, "the butcher." I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had not had either the knowledge or resources to seek a second opinion.

I would not go to Dr. Landay ever again. I had a diagnosis of stage 1 breast cancer and needed a simple lumpectomy. She is not a breast cancer Dr., although she thinks she is. She was going to mutilate me and when I was upset about it... she said... "well your breasts are not the same size any way" , "it's not my fault you have breast cancer" and "this is not an operation to beautify your breast, this is a cancer operation". ... Very rude and insensitive and cruel. --- If you have breast cancer, do yourself a favor and go to the Cancer Center in Danvers Ma which is basically Mass General, but in Danvers. I had Dr. Martini operate on me and he did an incredible job. He does nothing but breast surgery and has been doing it for over 30 years. Also, before Dr. Landay stormed out on me, I asked her about radiation treatment and she simply told me that "you are going to need it... so get it !!" When I asked her staff about where should I get radiation, I was… told they knew of one person who did it, but that they retired awhile ago.... what a BIG help that was! Dr. Martini works worth radiologists, oncologists and plastic surgeons and he has a wonderful bedside manner and made sure that I got every thing that I needed. Stay clear of this woman if you have cancer, I imagine that if she carves you up, you will not get too much sympathy. I think she hates women... just my opinion. I will never go anywhere else but the Danvers Cancer Center for anything of this sort.

Makes you feel like you can't ask questions.

I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor in my life. Dr Landay operated on my 7 year old in the hospital for appendicitis and it was bad from the start. Before bringing her in to the OR she told me she was exhausted cause this was the 3rd one this weekend. Then she wanted to send her home the same day even though she was in terrible pain and had other health issues that warrant an overnight observation stay. I insisted my daughter be kept and the next day Dr Landay came in to discharge her, in her street clothes and coat, ripped my daughters bandage off and said see you in 7 to 10 days and walked out, then as a second thought came back and asked if I had any questions. At my daughters check up Dr. Discovered a stitch that was red and raised and needed to be removed or could cause infection. My daughter was scared and crying the Dr was getting upset with my 7 year old said she was to old to at like this, that she wasn't going to fight with her, that if it got red or worse to… call her and walked out of the room and left us. Didn't ask if we had any questions or if our daughter could return to school. On top of it she gives a copy of the pathology report and doesn't even explain it.Had to call my pediatrician and ask him all the questions I had. Never will I ever go to this Dr again or send anyone to see her. No empathy or patience for people at all ,especially children.

I am just starting out with her. She is very direct, but that is acceptable to me, since when it comes to breast cancer, I would rather have the facts than a fairy tale. I want good care and I am hoping she will provide it. From what I read, she is an excellent surgeon.

I found this doctor to be extremely dismissive. She would barely listen to my symptoms and dismissed concerns i had. I feel like i didnt even see a doctor. I still have no idea wether the symptoms im having are serious on not. This appointment was a complete waste of my time.

Dr. Landay is knowledgeable and can diagnose problems; however, she is extremely impersonal and her demeanor often borders on the side of being rude. I'm not sure if the benefit of her expertise outweighs the negativity of her attitude.
