Dr. Nancy Schell, MD, FAPA

Nancy Schell, M.D., who joined City of Hope in Chicago in July 2018, is an experienced psychiatrist and board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Acutely aware that cancer patients often face anxiety, stress or other emotional distress after a life-changing diagnosis, Dr. Schell focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychological and emotional challenges. “My goal is to improve patients’ mental health and emotional well-being, so they can spend their energies fighting their disease,” she says. “I work with patients to address psychological issues early and help patients improve their quality of life.” Dr. Schell earned her medical degree from the University of Pécs Medical School in Pécs, Hungary, graduating cum laude. After moving back to the United States, she completed a residency in psychiatry at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, then completed fellowships with the American Psychiatric Association, Chicago …Psychoanalytic Association and American Psychoanalytic Association. With a long history of working in a variety of settings, including hospitals and clinics, Dr. Schell has reviewed several published books and held a number of academic appointments. Devoted to her specialty, she continuously stays up to date on new treatments and incorporates those insights into her work with patients.
