Dr. Naomi Hsiang Chen, MD

Dr. Chen has been my surgeon through two bouts of breast cancer. She is incredibly empathetic, and so easy to talk with that I actually look forward to my appointments with her. She is very informative and as a result, easy to trust. When I have taken my husband or daughter with me to appointments, she is patient and responds to all their questions. She also has suggested I get a second opinion when I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer this last time. I found that very reassuring. No ego, only 100% concern for me. I also find that she listens to me and treats “me,” not just my disease. That is not the norm in most medical situations. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Chen! I also adore her nurse, Trish! Going there is like seeing friends and they take excellent care of me.

I visited Dr. Chen in 2014 to follow up on a cyst I found in my breast. She was working in the office that had my previous records on the cyst, including the previous doctor's findings, ultrasounds, measurements of the cyst, etc. Dr. Chen did not bother to look for the prior records but checked the cyst with an ultrasound. She believed it was fluid-filled and offered to aspirate it with a needle. I have breast implants under the chest muscle, which she was aware of. She mentioned that she would try not to damage the implant. When she stuck the needle in, it missed the cyst and went directly into the implant. This resulted into a slow leak and a deflating implant. She was very apologetic and eventually gave me some names of cosmetic surgeons that could replace the implant. Given her compassion for my situation, I assumed she would pay for her mistake and help me with the financial arrangements to have the implant surgically replaced. When I spoke to her about that, she refused and… became very defensive, condescending and rude. She even made an unnecessary comment that I have very little breast tissue. She is unskilled and unprofessional. She is supposed to be a surgeon but can't seem to work a simple syringe.
