Dr. Nasrin Bashiri, MD

I have gone to Dr. Bashiri - over the last 5 years for different things and different issues. She works at multiple centers (3) and therefore it can be more complicated to get an appt ., e.g. in San Mateo two days a week. Over my lifetime, I have been to 5 different pyschiatrists -- 4 of which were mostly a waste of time. I was surprised to find that Dr. Bashiri actually added value to my life, helping me with insights I had not considered.. I completely trust her. I have gone to her for medication support, talk therapy and EMDR. She is very professional and also intuitive. I highly recommend her.

I contacted Dr. Bashiri a week ago via email to ask if she was accepting new patients and to confirm if she was in-network with my insurance provider. I kept my email very general because I was trying to quickly narrow down a list of doctors provided to me by my insurance provider. Dr. Bashiri replied yes to both questions and provided the date and time of her next available appointment (almost 3 weeks out). I confirmed the date and time she provided would work and requested for her to contact me should she have any cancellations. I also added, since I hadn't initially stated it, that I was making the appointment for my step daughter. No response. A few days later I sent another email to ask if she needed any additional information or paperwork completed prior to the appointment. She replied asking why we were seeking treatment at this time (shouldn't this have been asked in her first email?) and I responded suggesting a phone call would be easier for me to share more… detail. I gave specific times I was NOT available (a total of 2 hours) and said that otherwise the rest of the day and evening were free. I even followed up with a voicemail to repeat the times I was unavailable. The first time she called I unfortunately missed the call and she left a voicemail saying she was not free to talk at the times I stated. First thing to point out is that she obviously did not read my very clear email or listen to my very clear voicemail which indicated the times I stated were when I was UNavailable, not available. We played phone tag a couple more times until we finally spoke and that's when I experienced her unprofessionalism first hand. She cut me off several times while I was trying to speak and spoke over me saying "I am not finished talking." She insulted me by expressing surprise in the fact that my step daughter's father/mother was not the one calling her to make the appointment and repeatedly reminded me (as if I didn't already know) that I am the step mom. She also assumed that this was a situation of divorce - which it's not - and said something close to "these types of situations are too complicated and I don't get involved." She then stated that the date and time she had provided to me was no longer available and that she had to give it to one of her 'regular' patients. (So at the time she gave the appointment to someone else, why was I not notified?!) The icing on the cake was when she abruptly HUNG UP on me!!! I seriously felt like a door had been slammed in my face or as if I was being punished for seeking help on someone else's behalf. Sure, I'm not the "mother" but I'm a caretaker trying to do the right thing. Apparently if you are a single/divorced parent or act as a caregiver/guardian Dr. Bashiri will not see you unless she can see both parents in person. That means if one parent lives far away or is not a part of your child's life, sorry, Dr. Bashiri is not interested in helping you. What happened to putting a patient's needs and well-being first? I am still shocked and will never ever recommend her to anyone.

After one visit she refused to see me as a patient because I only wanted therapy, not meds. I have an extensive history of failure on antidepressants and had explained that to her. I also had told her on the phone prior to booking the first appointment that I just wanted to do therapy. Basically, I wasted 50 minutes filling out forms and dredging up my whole life story, just to throw away my co-pay. Now I have depression, no therapist, and I have to find and start all over again with someone else. How's that for compassionate medical care?

I called Dr Bashiri to find out if she was accepting new patients. I needed a provider for medication management. Unfortunately about 10 words in she declined to treat me because she did not agree with my existing treatment. Specifically, the medication. She did not offer any alternative providers who would treat me. I think providers should be non-judgemental, and fit treatment to the patient's needs and objectives. To put her beliefs ahead of effective treatment options calls in to question her ability to provide effective care for patients. I cannot speak for her competency as a practitioner since she refused to see me. I'm only suggesting that potential patients be mindful of the limited treatment options she will provide.

Spent over 18 months under her care, she was reluctant to try medications. Stuck on one when it did nothing for me. Finally changed it. Took me out on LTD, she knew going in what it would be and how long it would be and with last month of benefits avaible she released me and now i have no medical coverage. She is pushed over by insurance companies and did the bare minimum to help me. Complete waste of my time. now to get off the meds.
