Dr. Nathan Henninger, PhD

First of all, I want to point out that one of his "specialties" listed is an outdated term that is now considered a slur. I came in a few years ago for an autism diagnosis. I had done lots of prior research (talking to other autistic people, researching symptoms and how they present differently in different genders, etc). I let him know this so he knew I wasnt just going off of a quick Google search and slapping a label on myself. He later made fun of me for going into so much research by describing a certain part of the evaluation and saying "but since you researched it so much, I'm sure you already know." He did not give me a diagnosis (i had too much anxiety to be able to tell what was anxiety and what was autism, apparently) but told me he wanted to focus on treatment rather than diagnosis. The thing is, I was not coming in for treatment. Autism does not require "treatment." I was coming in for a diagnosis to validate the suspicions I had about myself. I was not looking for my… autism to go away as I recognize that it is an innate part of me, neither good nor bad. I went somewhere else a year later and got my diagnosis of autism. I am angry that this doctor did not listen to me and also belittled me for doing research on my own health.
