I visited the ER for severe back pain that had been ongoing for six months and was significantly affecting my ability to sleep, sit, stand, and function normally. My experience with the attending physician was very disappointing. I felt that my concerns were dismissed, and I left feeling unheard and without a clear plan for managing my pain while waiting to see a specialist. Communication throughout the visit was difficult, and several interactions left me feeling uncomfortable and discouraged. I did, however, want to recognize the crisis counselor and a nurse named Mike, both of whom were compassionate, professional, and took the time to listen to my concerns. Their kindness made a difficult situation more manageable. I understand that not every patient will receive the tests they request, but I believe patients deserve clear communication, respect, and empathy. Unfortunately, that was not my experience during this visit. There is much more, but is blocked by the moderation.
