Dr. Navin Chimanlal Shah, MD

Dr. Shah was insensitive, unprofessional, and condescending during the course of my visit. I waited a long time to see him from the time of my appointment. Once he entered the exam room, he insisted that I wait until he finished writing up the chart for his previous patient including dictating details into his Dictaphone. I don't see why I should be privy to confidential details of another patient and be forced to wait for such a long time to see my doctor at a private clinic. My wife was in the exam room with me during my visit and he addressed her almost the entire time of my visit and looked me in the eye and addressed me directly only once as if she was the patient and I was the next of kin! He even asked her questions about issues for which she didn't have the answer and it was clear I did. He didn't even bother to ask me how I am or how I am feeling post my prostate biopsy at the beginning of my appointment. He failed to prepare properly for my appointment by reading the latest… entries to my medical chart including the NIH pathology report for my prostate biopsy prior to my appointment even though the purpose of my visit was to gain his opinion about the the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It would be an understatement to say that this doctor has no bedside manner to speak of. In fact, his "style" is actually repugnant and arrogant. Moreover, he doesn't seem to be self-conscious of the extent to which he turns off his patients. He main concern is to be heard and not listen to patients' concerns. His "opinion" was confusing and unconvincing. When I asked him for citations to the studies to which he referred to back up his "opinion", he ignored me completely. He performed a digital rectal exam very painfully and at that point in the visit, I didn't see any point in sharing details of my discomfort with him since he had already ignored me and failed to even address me. I had seen another doctor at Mid-Atlantic Urology Associates who was one million times better than Dr. Shah on every measure. I recommend that future patients refuse to be seen by Dr. Shah since he is a disgrace to his profession.

Very rude. Waited over two hours for appointment on two separate occasions.

Bedside manner was atrocious.

Dr. Shah was extremely insensitive, unprofessional, and condescending during my visit. I was asked to use a small plastic cup (instead of a hygenic sealed cup) for my urine specimen. Before the exam started, my door was left open, after I had disrobed and was waiting for the doctor to come back in. I felt uncomfortable with the procedure I was having done, and he failed to take the time to hear my concerns. After I was visably upset, he was condescending and said that I needed to act like a "big girl". After the exam, he came back in and wanted to argue with me about why I was upset. Apparently, explaining to him that I was physically and emotionally uncomfortable was not viable explanation, and he kept asking "what really is wrong with you?". It was later explained to me that Dr. Shah has no "bed-side manner" and "wants to do the talking" instead of listening to patients' concerns. It was also shared with me that patients will continue to see him until they decide that "they don't… want to deal with it anymore". I have never encountered a doctor who wasn't willing to hear me out about being uncomfortable. Then, taking personal offense to my uncomfort, bullied me to the point of tears, and then wanted to confront me after the appointment.
