Dr. Nazish Sarfraz, MD

Saw Nazish Sarfraz when admitted to Dallas VA hospital for severe depression and anxiety - resulting in suicidal ideology. My first experience in the mental ward was a meeting with her. We discussed my medications which I had been adjusting over several months previously; unfortunately had not found the correct combination or it had not had time to work effectively. The woman indicated she would be making additional changes and mentioned some medications I had used before and had very negative reactions to. She almost acted as if she did not hear me and said the changes would be made - against my fervent objections. As well, I was cut off of the only medication that did provide some relief. This experience at the beginning of my stay resulted in a very negative and traumatic experience for me. I went there seeking help - voluntarily - however the experience with Nazish Sarfraz left me even more depressed, anxious and hopeless. As well I was angry and felt like my decision… to seek help was a huge mistake. Shortly after that experience I was speaking with another case worker who brought up the fact of my medicine changes. It was during that session I decided to check out of that hellish place "AMA" (against medical advice). The case worker had to call Nazish Sarfraz to inform her that I was requesting an AMA...and her reply to him, which I heard, was " OK, that's fine". No attempt to use persuasion or any other technique to keep me there continuing treatment - nothing. After I left the hospital I attempted suicide for the first time in my life at the age of 50 - unsuccessful due to a gun jam and subsequent discharge which did not hit me. I should be dead right now and had the firearm I was using not jammed, I would be and that would probably be better for everyone if I was. Now my life is continuing in a downward spiral so death is right around the corner for me I am relatively sure I will make sure my next attempt will be successful. All I can say is that if you ever encounter the person (I actually do not consider her a Dr. as no Dr. I've ever known has acted that unprofessional) Yet this is the care we are receiving as military veterans seeking help for depression and suicidal ideations in Dallas, Texas at the VA Hospital. I'm afraid with this type care the # of veterans committing suicide will rise from 22 or 23 a day to a much higher # in near future. Brace yourself America! I feel terrible for anyone else who must come into contact with her - she is truly a horrible human being cold and without compassion or empathy. As someone who has seen psychiatrists in 5 different countries around the world she is by far the worst. Yes - I do have anger about the experience as it was completely unexpected and has made my situation considerably worse than prior - and now I have NO MEDICATION as I will not take the poison she wanted to provide me.
