Dr. Neil Jay Kurtz

Dr Kurtz reattached my arm in 1979. I was blessed to have come back from this near death experience and become a professional golfer and OLYMPIC coach. This Dr saved my life!

I am living in Florida now and I am 70 years old. I believe it was 1985 when I completely shredded my patella tendon on my right leg playing basketball on a concrete court. It also fractured my patella and pushed it forward towards my thigh. My meniscus was badly torn. I was operated on after midnight and I have to believe, that I was very fortunate to be in Dr. Kurtz's hands. This was no ordinary patella tendon injury. He had to take part of my quadriceps muscle to make a new tendon since mine no longer existed. I remember later in the hospital room, he said this surgery was a real bird ( meaning I guess this was no easy chore). After 6 months of rehab, I was able to play basketball again, and 30 years later, I can still do my power walks for over an hour on this knee. I have to say; I don't think that there was any other orthopedic surgeon in eastern Long Island that could have given me this kind of favorable outcome. The man is a genius at what he does. I never thanked him since… I did at the hospital when I left but, I often think about how I would be doing if he wasn't on call that night.
