Let me start by saying that I have been suffering from chronic migraines since I was a child and when I turned 20 those occasional strong migraines turned into daily chronic migraines. I went to over 15 neurologists over the course of 3 years and tried all kind of different medications but nothing helped so I eventually gave up and started cutting off all things that could be potential triggers but unfortunately there are things that are outside of my control including stress, heat, humidity, sleep, allergies etc which were all triggers for me. After moving to SF I decided to give it another try and went to Dr Neil Raskin. I have been a patient of his for over 1 year and I can tell you that he changed my life after the first visit. He's extremely knowledgable and asks the right kind of questions in order to understand which route to take in treating your migraine instead of just throwing a ton of different medications at you and see if something might work. I've seen him for several years. Don't expect the warm fuzzies from him. If you dare to challenge his treatment, he'll turn on you and he can become very nasty and rude. He'll push you onto treatments that might not be appropriate -- e.g. he had me take high blood pressure in an off-label use to try to suppress my migraines, even though I have low blood pressure already and I was only having 4 migraine days a month. Kind of an over-treatment. He also prescribed expensive compounded ergotamine suppositories for me, and I found out from NEW, YOUNGER migraine doctor that there's a NASAL SPRAY of the same ergotamine available. Now, the ergotamine was a great drug, but who the heck will carry suppositories to use at a moment's notice? The drug was useless in the form he prescribed, and he never said, there is a nasal version. So in short, he's a relatively good Dr but his information is out of date.

This man is so rude. He flew off the handle on me during a call hours after my appt time which I cancelled same day. I have a serious condition which doesn’t always permit me to travel on public transit and my ride had an accident the day of and couldn’t take me, so at 6:30am I called his office to cancel. I believe I had a 9am appt. He called me at 2pm to tell me how he was blacklisting me and literally was screaming at me. I got off the phone in shock. Horrible doctor. He needs to find a protégée and retire.

Dr. Raskin gave me relief from migraines when I was desperate. Nothing worked and few treatments provided even marginal relief. He listened to me and gave me hope, then gave me months headache free. I will never forget how kind and understanding he was, in addition to his treating me as someone who had a brain, who deserved explanations about treatments and made me part of the solution to my problem. Years later, when we had moved from the area, one of my daughters suffered some strange symptoms that occasionally developed into headaches. She happened to be in San Francisco for a few months. I suggested she see Dr Raskin; he diagnosed her problem as a type of migraine and worked out medications that kept them from occurring. When she left the area, he provided her a recommendation for a neurologist in the area where she relocated. If migraine is your problem, you can do no better than have Dr. Raskin as your doctor.
