Dr. Neil Lipscomb Wood, MD

I was initially referred to Dr Wood about 5 years ago. It turned out my lab results were false positives. Great news. Dr. Wood is direct and to the point. Personally, I appreciate this greatly. He did find significant muscle tightness & spasms and treated with trigger point lidocaine injections. OMG, he’s a miracle worker. I’ve been a faithful follower ever since. Go in when I need it. Personally I don’t get the negative reviews. It seems like some people get angry when told they don’t have an auto-immune disease! They should be jumping up & down with joy!

Does not believe test results. Prescribes snake oil that is dangerous.

Find a real Rheumatologist. This guy diagnosed me wrongly and needs to retire

I wish I had something positive to say about my appointment with this doctor. From the time I sat down in his treatment room to when I left ten minutes later I was completely taken aback and horrified by his bedside manner, or lack thereof. I'm a 43 year old female in very good health. I work out and eat ok and have never had any weird pains before but for the last five months I'd been having pain in my right ring finger that spread to my left elbow and a couple weeks later spread to my right elbow and then eventually both wrists and shoulders, along with having a burning sensation all of these spots. I told Dr. Woods that my PCP believed I had "tennis elbow" until the burning and aching pain started to spread to the rest of my arms but admitted he had no idea what was wrong with me so thus my appt with a rheumatologist, Dr. Woods. I told Dr. Woods after much research and now my husband and three sons developing the same pain in their elbows along with the discovery of all of us… being bitten by bed bugs recently that I believed we all had Lyme disease or something similar. Wrong thing to say to this doc; he clearly has some issues regarding Lyme disease. He proceeded to inform me without ever examining me that I do not have Lyme, there is no Lyme disease anywhere outside of the east coast (someone may wanna let the Lyme labs know that regularly test ticks across the country and find Lyme in those ticks) and that wherever there are lizards there is no Lyme. I guess the east coast doesn't have lizards then since they apparently do have the only Lyme in the country according to Dr. Woods. He also informed me in the most condescending tone he could muster that all areas of Lyme disease breakouts around the country are due to a Mayo Clinic being nearby. Now, I appreciate a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone else but this just seemed a far-fetched to me. At this point I realized this appointment was not only a mistake, it was pointless as well because I was not going to get any unbiased answers. Nor was I going to receive any patient care or even an exam. Instead I got to listen to a soliloquy about why this man doesn't believe in Lyme disease. He also informed me that I had been sleeping on my arms wrong every night, despite never once asking me how I slept. This was also surprising to me as I'd been sleeping the same way for most of my 43 years and had never had a problem before the last five months. At this point I figured it was probably time to bring my appointment to a conclusion. Since I still couldn't get a word in I ended up having to just get up and walk out, to which his response was to follow me out the door and continue on with his strange ramblings. Definitely the strangest and worst doctors appt I've ever had. As it turns out, my middle son ended up developing a bullseye rash after being bitten by these bed bugs and also tested positive for babesia which is a coinfection for Lyme disease. The rest of my family and I all were diagnosed with Lyme disease as well by a different doctor who actually took our history and symptoms seriously. We were all immediately put onto six weeks of doxycycline and herbal antibiotics (I would've never expected those to work but boy do they). The doxy helped immensely and completely wiped out the symptoms in my sons, as I believe theirs was caught early enough. Mine and my husband's cases have improved dramatically with the doxy and even more so with the herbal antimicrobials. Im very glad I listened to my gut and didn't take anything Dr. Woods said seriously. He's out of touch, lacks updated knowledge, and seems a little off. I definitely would encourage anyone without a cut and dry case of arthritis to go elsewhere. This guy is not the doc for you.

I went to see him because of extreme joint pain all of a sudden. He was adamant I needed more sleep and that would magically solve everything. Oh my God if it was so easy. I have since been diagnosed with late onset LUPUS. This man is nothing but a quack now who stole my 80 bucks. I think someone needs to go see him with a actual diagnoses and watch how he tells you you have nothing wrong that sleep won't fix. I am going to complain to the medical board and I encourage you to do the same

Upon entering Dr. Wood's office you are greeted by an incredibly welcoming staff member, so initially I had very high hopes for my appointment. I was referred to Dr. Wood by my primary care due to irregular lab results and odd physical symptoms. Dr. Wood briefly skimmed my labs and said they were completely normal, dismissing the irregularities. He said they weren't high enough for him to have any concern, even though they exceeded the threshold of normal. He didn't even take the time to look at the photos of my physical symptoms, as the come in flares. He did a physical assessment and told me I was probably "stressed and that a lot of people complain of chronic fatigue". When I mentioned pain in my shoulders when I raise my arms above my head, he rubbed my should for a minute and when I said that didn't relieve the pain, he didn't believe me. He then proceeded to tell me, "if you bang your head against a wall and it hurts, don't bang your head against a wall. So if it hurts to raise… your arm above your head, don't raise your arm above your head." I'm 25 years old, I have had no injuries to cause the extreme discomfort in my shoulders and his suggestion was to never raise my arms above my head. At the conclusion of the appointment he asked if I had any questions. I was in such shock at what a nightmare the appointment had been that I burst into tears and told him I was no okay with his answers and that I don't feel healthy. He just stared at me blankly and said that I would encounter plenty of people who have hurt since they were teenagers and nothing is wrong with them, and that I was probably a bad sleeper and that was why I was having these symptoms. I walked out feeling so defeated as I have battled some of my symptoms for five years and just now got the courage to seek medical advice. I was ignored the entire appointment and he looked disgusted that I would even suggest having any sort of ailment. The appointment was entirely devastating and caused so much emotional turmoil that I have very little desire to continue my journey to find out what is wrong and would rather figure out on my own how to manage my symptoms. If you are referred to Dr. Wood and are hoping for an empathetic doctor that will actually listen and help you - I would suggest seeking a referral elsewhere.

Dr Wood came off as judgmental and disrespectful. On my first visit, he should have been on a fact finding mission rather than dismissing my pain, RA and issues as inconsequential. After dealing with RA for 8 years, I expected someone who was there to help. He dismissed my pain with a flippant "All my patients with RA are pain free" without offering me any plan on how to get there. I guess I need a doc that is familiar with the life changing aspects of RA and is willing to spend time helping me find wellness.

Dr Wood was extremely caring, supportive, & instilled hope at a time I felt very little. I would Highly recommend him to anyone !!!
