Dr. Nicholas Frank Agnesi, MD

I received a hair transplant procedure from Dr. Nicholas Agnesi in late 2011. The procedure took place at Shear Pointe in Birmingham, MI. I was 32 years old. This was my second hair procedure â?? the first occurred in 2003 with Bosley in Chicago. I attended a consultation appointment and although I was not able to meet the Dr., I was happy with the Shear Pointe staff and decided to schedule my procedure for the following week. Dr. Agnesi told me that he would remove my old scar by selecting his harvest area above and below the incision from my first procedure so that when he completed his procedure I would be left with only one scar. During the removal of the strip of scalp there was an exceptional amount of bleeding. The blood ran down my back and even around my neck and down my chest and stomach and stained the waist of my pants. It took much longer for the Dr. to suture my scalp than it had during my first procedure. He called in an assistant to complete the suturing… with him. When they completed the sutures they both commented on how tight they had made them. The Dr. scheduled to keep my sutures in for 15 days as opposed to the 10 days they usually recommend due to the difficulty with suturing the incision area. During the recovery period, the hair in the donor area began to fall out. It has never grown back. The donor site is now a large bald patch of scar tissue. Additionally, I never regained feeling above the incision â?? my scalp is numb directly above the incision all the way to the top of my head. When I returned to have the sutures removed, the area was very swollen and scabbed over. The person who hosted my consultation was the person that removed the sutures. He told me that he may have missed a few and that if I felt any remaining pieces of suture over the next few days that I should pull them out. I did remove three pieces of suture over the next two days. During the suture removal appointment, I was told that I would receive a call from them in one year to measure the progress. I never received a follow up call from Dr. Agnesi or Shear Pointe. I have since visited Bosley for a consultation and was told that the previous procedure had cut too deep and severed the nerves in the donor area and that I would likely never regain feeling in the area. Additionally, I was told that the strip removed was too wide which caused the excessive bleeding and caused suturing to be difficult and required the extreme tightness of the sutures. I was told that it was this tightness that caused the scar tissue which caused the hair loss. I was also told that the hair lost in this area will likely never grow back. I elected to have a third and final hair transplant procedure, again with Bosley, to complete my front hairline. Bosely harvested the donor hair from the opposite side of my head. I requested that hair be transplanted into the scar area that is now bald since the procedure with Dr. Agnesi. The Bosley Dr. advised me that the transplanted hair there was much less likely to survive due to a lack of blood flow because of the scar tissue. It was recommended that a small quantity of grafts be attempted to determine if there could be success. 100 grafts were transplanted into the area â?? however, none of them survived. Upon follow up visits with Bosley they reiterated that, unfortunately, the previous donor area would likely not grow hair, original or transplanted, ever again. I was also told that because the area had been cut and stretched so much that it was not a candidate for a scalp reduction. I was informed of tattoo options to have the scar area shaded to permanently match my surrounding hair color so that it would be less noticeable. I decided against the tattoo and currently grow my hair longer in the back to cover the bald spot. I have to constantly pay attention to the area to prevent it from being exposed due to body movement or wind.

I had a Hair Transplant with Dr. Agnesi just about a year and a half ago. He and his team were wonderful throughout the whole procedure. They were easy to work with and made me feel really comfortable. A year later, my results are great and I am considering a second procedure. I'd definitely use him again and recommend him to others.
