Dr. Patrick Nelson Patchen, MD

First, actually getting an appointment that would fit my schedule was impossible! I will give the staff the benefit, that they are very prompt - sat in the waiting area less than 10 minutes, and in the exam room less than 2 minutes. However, the bedside manner of the doctor is below poor! I was in a week prior to have an abscess drained. I called to move the follow up appointment that was scheduled for 2 weeks after because of infection - redness, swelling, and a green mucus drainage (the original appointment was the difficult one to begin with) and I had to wait TWO DAYS before I could even be seen! Then he basically called me a liar stating I was exaggerating my pain level and told me there was NO infection. (I went to the ER later that day where it was confirmed that I had a fungal infection and was given a different type of antibiotic and given proper care instructions!) When I asked about a letter being provided to my pain management physician regarding the increase in the… pain medication Dr. Patchen told me to take, he acted as if he never told me to increase it stating that "Percocet is way more than I would have given. I would only prescribe Tylenol for this type of thing." After being called a liar now not once but twice, I had enough and began cursing (I admit, it was inappropriate but I was beyond upset) - as I stopped at the window to make my co-pay and pay off whatever balance I owed, I was "greeted" by a woman whom did not identify herself so I assume she was the Office Manager asking who was using such language. When I said I was - she told me to leave immediately and then began running her mouth about how her son is a Marine and how he would never use such inappropriate language. (I am a wounded Iraqi veteran and was wearing Wounded Warrior logoed clothing - which is how I assume she knew I was a veteran) As I was walking out through the lobby, she continues to follow me stating that I am a disgrace to the military and how she is proud of her son. (What that had to do with ANYTHING is beyond me - highly inappropriate from the Office Manager, who really should have just kept her mouth shut to begin with. BUT that's the beauty of free speech! When in fact what I really wanted to tell her was that "I put my life on the line to save your a*s, not to kiss it!" I would not recommend this doctor or his Office Manager to anyone for any reason!
