Dr. Colacchio performed total hip replacement surgery on both my right and left hip. The surgeries went very well with minimal recovery time. He and his team are knowledgeable, personable, professional and very kind. I never felt rushed and I highly recommend him.

My hip pain finally became intolerable in June of 2024. It was first thought that my problem could be sciatica, piriformis, or IT ban. Eight weeks of PT made the pain worse. A CT scan in November of 2024 yielded hip joint concerns. Oral prednisone gave no relief. In December of 2024 through discussions with my PCP & doing online research, made me aware that good hip surgeons in Maine were scheduling out as late as September of 2025. Contacting a few different offices in the Bangor, Augusta, and Portland areas got me on wait lists. In the meantime we anticipated pre-op clearances and scheduled labs, EKG, dental work, & specialist sign offs. Then, Dr. Colacchio’s team in Falmouth called first & scheduled me for a February 13th x-ray, evaluation, & consult! Shortly after, realizing a snowstorm was forecast that same day, they advanced me to February 12th! Dr Nick’s bedside manner is very caring and professional in how he explained my situation to me. I didn’t just have a flat tire, I… was riding on the rim with bone on bone real pain, requiring attention as soon as was possible. I was scheduled for May 9th and put on a cancellation wait list. Within a week, Dr Colacchio personally called to upgrade my replacement to April 1st, no joke! After that, his whole team was absolutely amazing and in high gear! Nurses gave me online courses & exercises to inform and prepare me pre-op. An Anesthesiologist reviewed my meds & scheduled which ones to add or delete & exactly when, for my best personal outcome. Another nurse connected me with a local lending closet for a walker and other rehab items at no cost. She even scheduled follow up PT well in advance that dovetailed seamlessly. Everyone made me feel like family with their kindness and attention to details. The muscle sparing procedure known as the "Direct Anterior Approach” that Dr. Nicholas Colacchio is amazingly good at, went extremely well for me! They kept me overnight because we live 2.5 hours away, to be sure I was okay to safely return home. I only used a walker for just under one week, and a cane just at night for a couple of more weeks. I never used pain medications, only ice, elevation, supine stretches, and gentle walks a little longer each day for the first month. Then PT twice a week with exercises three times a day, and more walking for the second month. At eight weeks I had my final x-ray and post operative check with Dr. Colacchio. I’m pain free and very happy to be getting my life back. I’ll continue with a healthy diet and careful exercises while my bones continue to strengthen and fully knit with my new hip joint. I can expect a full recovery within 6 months to a year as long as I stay safe and committed to recovery. Dr. Colacchio and his team are amazing! From start to finish they were patient and made sure I understood everything each step of the way. Dr. Colacchio called me twice - once to move my appointment up and the other the night before surgery. I felt totally at ease with him and my hip replacement surgery and have had no complications, no issues. I have my life back again!!

I am a 58 year old woman who was bone on bone with my left hip and excruciating pain for years. I was so nervous about having a complete hip replacement but Dr. Colacchio and his staff were so wonderful - Dr. Colacchio called me a week before my surgery and then again the night before to reassure me about my surgery. My surgery went beautifully and I have experienced no pain since! If I ever needed another replacement I wouldn't hesitate or feel nervous - and I can't thank Dr. Colacchio enough - this surgery changed my life.

After spending some time limping around in pain my Primary Care Physician ordered an x-ray that showed my left hip was bone on bone. I consulted a local Orthopedic Surgeon who said I needed a total hip replacement and he would be glad to do it for me. I asked if he did the muscle sparing procedure known as the "Direct Anterial Approach". He said he did not but told me that Dr. Nicholas Colacchio is the doctor who has perfected this procedure. I researched Dr. Colacchio and found all reviews were 5 stars. I then called for an appointment. The entire experience was complete starting with another x-ray and explanation about everything about my condition and how the procedure would go. Following my first office visit I was given a packet of instructions and appointments that included phone calls and a zoom meeting to totally prepare me for the surgery. Surgery day went so smooth. Everyone at the Maine Medical Center was so nice and professional. Dr. Colacchio and his team worked their… magic and the surgery went better than I had expected. After a night in the hospital I went home. I then did the recommended exercises at home and at day 25 I was walking without assistance. The pain was minimal so I didn't need any pain medicine. If I need another hip replacement I will definitely trust my surgery to Dr. Colacchio and his team, which are truly 5-star.

I fell and broke my hip, so had no time to do research on surgeons. After a long over night in the emergency department. I am eternally grateful that I ended up with Dr. Colacchio! He is truly a gifted surgeon. After a total hip replacement I had no pain, swelling, or bruising…how can that be? He must be magical! Took only Tylenol and am healing quickly. He listened to my concerns and answered my questions both before and after surgery. If I need another joint replacement, or know someone who did, he would be the guy!

Dr. Colacchio not only gave me a hip replacement, he gave me my life back. At age 65, I was suffering from end stage osteoarthritis, complicated by my mild cerebral palsy (CP) affecting the operative side. It's now been 2 months since my surgery and I have gone from bouts of depression, anxiety and planning for a wheelchair to grinning like crazy at my new mobility and independence. Dr. C. understood (and fixed) my complexities and explained every step before, during and after surgery. Definitely, one of the best things that ever happened to me.

Excellent Dr. and Staff. I put off getting the hip replaced and painfully limped around with a cane for about a year. It has been about 2 years after getting the procedure and I am thinking why did I wait so long to get it done. Now I am hiking and riding a bike again at 63 years old with NO PAIN!
