During a Memorial Day weekend visit to Apex, NC, my wife suffered an injury to her eye, which has a cornea transplant. We called her cornea specialist at home and he said, “Get to Duke!” We called the ER and they were ready for us when we arrived. I felt confident in the care my wife would receive from the moment we entered the hospital ER. The ER staff quickly took us into the eye care room and the eye resident on call, Dr. Nizar Abdelfattah, soon arrived. After an initial exam, he called in the cornea specialist and we were scheduled for surgery in the Eye Center for the next day. These doctors and the staff were empathetic and so obviously competent that both my wife and I felt she was in the best possible hands. We felt especially fortunate to receive such prompt attention on a holiday weekend.
