Dr. Norman Alva Armstrong, MD

Dr. Armstrong is one of the best there are. He's knowledgeable, intuitive, funny, thorough and highly competent. He was my OB/GYN back in the 90's. In the 2000s he saved my life by catching an ectopic pregnancy before it could rupture. Although my tube couldn't be saved,he removed scar tissue during the surgery and as a result, I had 2 more children. I will always recommend him!

On my first visit in my 1st trimester after transferring from another state, Dr Armstrong insisted that I must undergo a vaginal unltrasound, even though I had had one the previous week through an inova hospital and he had the records of that ultrasound on his computer. It would be the second one I had had during my first trimester of pregnancy, and as they are uncomfortable and invasive, I preferred to rely on the one performed the previous week. His ego was so insulted that he refused to see me as a patient at all, refused to allow a standard blood draw, vitals, urine test etc. He argued that unless I let him perform a vaginal ultrasound upon me he could not verify I was pregnant, let alone how far along I was. He could not reply when I pointed out that he had the records from my inova hospital ultrasound right there on his computer (I could see it on the screen). Why he so badly wanted to perform a vaginal exam upon me was never satisfactorily explained and I am left with the belief… it was an issue of control. I had truly not realized that I was expected to undergo yet a third vaginal ultrasound or that it would present any problem whatsoever to decline it. Even though I am AMA and therefore automatically a high risk pregnancy, he refused to carry through with our appointment. The staff would not fit me in for another until I would be well into my 2nd trimester, all without any standard bloodwork done, despite having a history of pregnancy related thyroid disease, which must be treated in the first trimester to avoid damage to the fetus. It was a bewildering and astonishing experience to have with a medical professional. He and the staff exhibited zero concern for my medical care. In the end, all tests had to be rushed through in a hospital setting to beat deadlines when the tests would no longer have predictive value. As it turned out, my baby has chromosomal abnormalities that the blood tests, performed late, picked up on past my 1st trimester. I would not have had an abortion anyway, but if I had wanted one, the delay in testing would have meant it would have been a much more complicated prospect, and as 70 percent of women in my situation do choose abortion, it would have been a disaster for someone else. All because the dr and his staff put ego above patient care. This abysmal approach to patient care permeates the entire office.

Dr Armstrong was so responsive. He was a good listener, called back right away and explained my condition thoroughly.

The office is always clean. Soft soothing lighting. The staff is always pleasant and professional. Dr. Norman is personable, jovial and professional. When I had my hysterectomy, my husband who does not like doctor's, loved Dr. Norman! I wouldn't have any other OB doctor!

Dr. Armstrong is the greatest!!! He's mastered the art of professionalism/humanism. I can go to Dr. Armstrong and get a strictly professional opinion but he's going to throw in a human personal touch also. I have the best Dr. Ever!!!! Out of 6 stars, I have to give him a 20!!!

Wonderful bedside manner through my difficult pregnancy. Very thorough and caring!

I just LOVE Dr. Armstrong. I have been a patient of him for years and he also delivered both of my boys (17/10). His bedside manor is fabulous. I recommend him to all my friends as much as I can. The staff that he employs all are great as well. All I can say is please don't change a thing.

Best ob/gyn I've ever encountered. Caring and thorough. Front desk staff is sometimes cold but the doctor more than makes up for it.
