Dr. Nurul Islam, MD

(Please read entire review before forming an opinion) Although I truly believe that Dr. Islam’s intentions are pure, his communication skills are unacceptably poor and his staff is extremely unprofessional. I’m 16 years old and I went to Dr. Islam for one of my regular checkups. As soon as I entered his clinic, the lady at the front desk was on her phone and unresponsive. When I stated my name and appointment (which was the exact time I walked in), she laughed and gestured towards the waiting room with her head. After waiting for about 45 minutes, the same lady came out with the rudest tone and asked “who are you?” I told her my name again and she led me to one of the examination rooms where I had to wait another half hour before seeing Dr. Islam. When Dr. Islam entered the examination room, he shared his concern with me about my “abnormal and severe low weight.” I’m 16 years old, male, 6’1, and 128 pounds. I understand that I am below the average weight for my age, but I… didn’t understand why the situation was being so overdramatized. Dr. Islam was creating false claims out of nowhere and even told me that I was in denial about my abnormal weight. The information he was feeding me was simply false because A) Due to my height, my weight distribution is obviously going to be different than the average 16 year old. And B) I come from an entire family of physicians who reassure me that I am at a normal growing state. But Dr. Islam continued to argue with me. I’m still a child at the end of the day, even if I was wrong, there’s no need for him to be this blunt and defensive about it. For him to create such an extreme call out of thin air is very alarming and beyond my comprehension. Here’s where things get bad... I explained my counterargument to him in a very calm and respectful manner, and the look on his face was indescribable. There was a long pause of silence while he was typing on his computer. Then he abruptly got up from his chair and told me to take all my clothes off. Usually I would only take my clothes off during a physical, and he would tell me ahead of time, but I went along with what he said. I removed my clothes and was expecting him to touch or examine me. But instead he took one look at me, from head to toe, and said “So you think you look good?” in a sarcastic tone ... I was beyond embarrassed and shocked as to why he said that considering I’ve seen him in the past regarding my depression and anxiety. To make things even worse, he then said “You have a distorted body image.” I was sitting there, silent, naked, and holding back tears for the rest of the appointment. I left his office crying and for the first time in my life, ashamed of the body I was in. My “distorted body image” started when he diagnosed me with a condition I didn’t have at the time. I’ve always had respect for Dr. Islam and somehow I still do. I truly believe that in his own way, he was trying to look out for me, but his delivery was AWFUL. He should really use his words carefully considering he works with children like myself who are extremely impressionable. He also should consider himself lucky that he said those nasty things to me rather than someone who couldn’t have handled it. Lord knows what would have happened if he said something like that to the wrong person. I would not visit Dr. Islam’s office again, nor would I recommend him to anyone. Just because I still have respect for him doesn’t mean I’m not infuriated with what this last visit has done to my mental health. I am currently seeing a new doctor.

Our son is just 2 months and we have had 3 visits with the dr so far and he seems wonderful! Answers all of our questions and is very good with the baby. He is a little hard to understand and you may have to ask him to repeat a few things but other than that he was great.

Dr. Islam is a great dr he has seen my children since they were born and now 10 yrs down the road he has changed his front staff lady is horrible and rude and now I can no longer get an apt for my children when needed he goes on vacation all time seems like always closed all of a sudden I don't know what's going on but I'm really close to changing Drs

He is the one who care about money not the patient. It was so horrible experienced I ever had before.

My children have been seeing Dr. Islam since they were born. I just love him. He is sometimes difficult to understand, but not so much due to his accent but his very quiet manner. He is patient, kind, and gentle. He is conservative in treatment and for the most part, natural in his approach, i.e., pro-breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc. In the beginning, I was a new parent, and I wasn't so sure about him and his office, so I switched to a very well established Pediatric practice in Plano. I was very disappointed and quickly returned to Dr. Islam. Dealing with a large pediatrics office was a headache and I felt like the doctor didn't have an interest in my child like Dr. Islam did. He even saw my child on a Saturday, which just happened to be the day after Christmas. Pretty rare for most physicians. The one thing I would change about his office is the lack of knowledge and experience of his medical assistants, and the lack of a RN or LVN in his office. His medical assistants are the… kindest I've met, however, due to age and experience I do feel that his practice could be improved if he had a RN or LVN with more experience with children.

WOW, the doctor is very quite when talking but when we went to his office they turned us away and very rude. I call my insurance and there is no problem with it. I see that my child and family are not good enough for them......spend time elsewhere

VERY WARM STAFF & INVIROMENTE,DR.IS VERY ATENTIVE & EXCELENT ON DIAGNOSE MY KIDS CONDITION...PATIENT TO EXPLAIN ALL OF MY DOUBTS ABOUT,VERY ACURATE & WARM AS WELL!!!MY BEST FRIENDS CHILDREN ARE HIS PATIENTS AS WELL...& SO FAR THEI LOVE HIM & EVERYONE ELSE AT HIS OFICCE.
