Dr. Pablo Serrano Rodriguez, MD

Pablo Serrano Rodriguez, MD, FACS, is an assistant professor of surgery and surgical director of the pancreas transplant program. He specializes in abdominal organ transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Dr. Serrano is originally from Mexico and received his medical degree from Universidad Anahuac. He completed his general surgery residency at PEMEX hospital in Mexico City before completing a transplant and hepatobiliary fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital. He was most recently the director of pancreas transplantation in addition to being the founder and director of the Latino transplant clinic at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Serrano is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and American Society of Transplantation. ​​​Dr. Serrano's research interests include organ transplantation and increasing access to transplantation for minority …patients. His research focuses on Hispanic patients, specifically designating efforts to educate, evaluate, and transplant members of the Latino community through the elimination of barriers based on language, bias, or socioeconomic hardship.
