Dr. Pamela Leigh Alvarez, MD

Worst doctor ever. We were in her office/patient room & she refused to talk or see us. Her incompetent staff lost my husbands hospital records & she refused to see us without the records. What kind of doctor is that????

My 86 year old mother, who is displaying serious symptoms of Parkinson’s disease severely affecting her quality of life, waited three months for an appointment after being referred to this doctor. The transportation staff from the skilled nursing facility got her to the doctors office 20 minutes late due to horrible traffic brought on by rain. Not only did the doctor’s staff tell her she would not be seen, they would not even let her in the office. She was sitting outside in a wheelchair in the pouring rain. The waiting room was empty! My sister, who had to take off work to meet her there, pleaded with the staff to let the doctor see her, since my mom had travelled over an hour to get there. The staff rudely refused. They weren’t even apologetic or nice about it. In fact they were defiant and mean. Extremely unbelievably unprofessional. We will not be rescheduling my mother with this doctor. After reading the other reviews on this thread, I would do anything possible to make sure you… see any neurologist other than Dr. Alvarez. Why do people go into medicine if not to help others? And what doctor would allow their staff to treat an 86-year-old ailing woman with such disrespect and contempt? It is inexcusable. Very sad! If you have a choice, choose another doctor with another staff. You will save yourself a lot of stress and heartache. And it is clear, these people do not care.

This doctor is the biggest joke, I would have had a better chance of more help at an urgent care. If I were you I wouldn’t waste my time. Her bedside manner is awful. Before she even listened to my symptoms she told me she had no idea why I was there and that she couldn’t do anything for me. And I was given a referral by my other doctor to see her. She then left the room to go call my doctor to get my more information and after about 15 minutes, her nurse came back in and said there is nothing they can do for me and that I need to go back to my doctor for the next step. She spent a totally of about 5 minutes. I will be calling my insurance to deny the claim. Worst doctor ever!!!! I would give her a negative 5 if I could.

Was seen twice by Dr. Alvarez. First time she was caring and concerned. Second visit, after MRI was completed, after being rescheduled because she was going on vacation, she was a different person. She was blunt and had not reviewed my history at all. Brought a copy because there is no way to email a copy of records to her office. She didn’t listen to me and dismissed me because of MRI results. Then suggested that I see a psychiatrist. Had seen a neurologist for years and to be dismissed without looking deeper into my issues was unprofessional. I do not recommend her at all.

Dr. Alvarez "Misdiagnosed" my mother, telling her after a very short visit, verbal "test" only, that "you don't have dementia". A month or two later, my mother was, as we suspected, diagnosed with ADVANCED DEMENTIA by the best Neurologist - Dr. Monika Gupta of UCSD. Dr. Pamela Alvarez is the referred Dr. for several HMO medical groups/doctors... but, she is less than qualified, not a very good Neurologist. For anything major, seek a better Neurologist. Office staff is great, Even Dr. Alvarez's personality is great, nice lady. But, quality or knowledge, expertise is very lacking.

We were hesitant to keep our appointment based on the negative reviews, but could not have been more pleased with the experience we had! Staff, including Jennifer, were welcoming, pleasant and helpful! Dr. Alvarez was kind, compassionate and very encouraging! We left with good feelings and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone!

This doctor is extremely rude and has horrible bedside manner. She refused to help me with my migraines. She accused me of not being committed to getting rid of them. Are you kidding me? Um, ok, because I love migraines!!! WOW. What an arrogant and mean person. Please steer clear.

Doesn't listen, is definitely not a kind doctor and discounts everything you tell her like you are stupid. Spare yourself and find a doctor that isn't so arrogant.
