Dr. Pamela M Nilsson, PhD

Accepted an appt with me with the understanding that I would pay out of pocket for her services. Went to the appointment and she did nothing but tell me she didn't take my insurance. Then proceeded to charge me $250 for literally nothing. For the inconvenience of hearing that she can't help me because she doesn't take my insurance. This could have been clarified in the phone call but it was the opposite. She was confusing in her communication. Not the best quality for a therapist.

Wonderful, thoughtful, and impactful psychologist. I definitely benefited from our sessions. One thing is causing me to give 4 stars instead of 5: Dr. Nilsson always wears very tight clothing. And while frankly she is very attractive, this was quite a distraction in this setting.

Dr. Nillson’s treatment philosophy, summarized online, resonated with my particular psychological issues, so I forwarded a brief description of my pains and struggles to her attention via email. Disappointingly, she chose not to respond. I then called her office and left a message conveying that I very much needed to consult with her, as I was beginning to collapse under the weight of in some growing psychological and emotional distress. She again elected not to respond, despite my plea. I can only assume that potential patients that for some reasons don’t rate her services—possibly having less desirable health insurance (not as profit making for Dr. Nilsson), or that she either finds that she intuitively doesn’t care for the characterization of your hardships, or possibly it is just the quality of your voice that she dismisses as too strange, or it’s just that she thinks you sound unlikeable. Whatever the reasons for Dr. Nillson’s disregard of distressed patients, it presents… her unarguable, demonstratef and twisted priorities—where Dr. Nillsons elevates her personal needs over what she sees as the ‘nuisance’ of returning the calls and messages of distressed and at risk patients. Feeling this rejection first hand, I would in no way ever consult with Dr. Nilsson now, as she has makes it clear that she values her own convenience and revenues over serving the welfare of her desperate, hurting patients.

This clinician primarily uses person-centered therapy, which is a non-directive, low to no structure therapy. In my opinion, it is the least effective type of therapy and I did not get $150 worth of benefit after a few sessions. Being a client engaged in this type of therapy is like walking around in the dark and hoping to eventually bump into ways of getting better with no guidance or direction. That's because you are the one directing therapy, with the clinician reflecting back what you say or what they observe. My experience is that her office is very hot and humid, making it an uncomfortable setting. Also, she is so soft spoken it is often difficult to hear her. I was not interested in spending several months (e.g., 6+) before seeing progress.
