Having lived in Houston for much of my adult life (and conducting my business there), I have seen at least a half dozen Cardiologists for angina and even several minor heart attacks - thought to be related to long term prednisone use for CTD/Lupus. Houston is known for it's top medical center and many top Cardiologists, so when we moved back to Austin 2 years ago, I was a little concerned about finding a good doctor to help me with my heart health and issues. The first visit with Dr. Desai completely eliminated all my apprehensions. She spent a significant amount of time with me in the office going over all of my symptoms and medical history pertaining to my heart/health. The previous Cardiologist we saw in Houston wanted to do an angioplasty however, I have an acute 'foreign body reaction' to virtually anything attached to my tissues - including even plastic I.V. catheters (within hours there is inflammation and redness of the skin surrounding the area where the I. V. is… inserted. SO, we were very concerned about the possibility of placing a shunt inside my body! Dr. Desai ordered some other tests in an attempt to determine if indeed this was something that would help and the results indicated that an angioplasty was not even necessary for my condition. So, she helped us avoid a very risky surgery and, the medications she placed me on have reduced the angina and other heart episodes to where I haven't had a problem with those symptoms for over a year. Also, my blood pressure is consistently at a stable rate. I would say that Dr. Desai has been a better Cardiologist than all of the 6 or 7 Cardiologists I'd gone to while living in Houston (at the renowned medical center there). In addition to treating me and helping my condition to improve greatly, Dr. Desai has a wonderful approach (bedside manner) and is clearly concerned and dedicated to helping each patient to the very best of her ability. She doesn't miss one thing in your medical history and obviously has a extensive expertise in treating her heart patients. She listens to your concerns and works with you as a partner in discovering the best treatment for your particular condition(s). The icing on the cake at Austin Heart and with having Dr. Desai as my Cardiologist is that her staff; nurses, office administrators, etc., are all incredibly friendly AND professional. They always follow up in a timely manner when it comes to getting prescriptions filled, dealing with health insurance claims and any other issues that may arise. If we moved to another city, I think I would still travel back to Austin just to keep Dr. Desai as my Cardiologist! It is SO rare today with all of the health insurance/coverage problems and complications, to find a specialist who is top notch in providing excellent care and treatment, but Dr. Desai is easily at the top when it comes to heart health!
