Dr. Patrick James Burns, DO

Trying to be fair. Dr Burns SEEMED to be a caring, professional individual concerning my lower back pain. His front office receptionist, however, is a nightmare. My original appointment was simply a consult. I was told to have an MRI in order to proceed with treatment, and then schedule the 2nd appointment, which I did. I was also told they would be able to view the images on their system. However, when I called to make the 2nd appointment after the MRI was taken, the clerk at the office told me I needed a CD, that they would only be able to pull up the radiologist report at the office, they needed a CD for the images. Mind you, I was in a lot of pain, with debilitating mobility issues. I got the CD from the imaging center on the way to the 2nd appointment. When I presented it, the nurse told me the CD wasn't needed since they could pull up the images online. When I related this to Dr Burns, he said "Do you want me to go over your MRI or don't you?" No words of apology nor acceptance… that his clerk is less than responsible, perhaps needing further training. At that 2nd visit, I also let them know I needed a renewal on a handicap placard that had recently expired. On my way out of the office I was handed the form, proceeded to DMV, waited several hours there, only to be told it was the wrong form. Back to the doctor's office. The same clerk took the form, and told me to sit down. Since I was in a lot of pain and sitting was more painful than standing, I told her I preferred to stand (there wasn't anyone else at the window). She insisted I step away from the counter, so I shut the glass window. The supposedly correct form was then handed to me (NOT signed by the Doctor, which the 1st form had been, it was signed by someone else). I returned to DMV, only to find out the same clerk had put the wrong year for the expiration date of the placard on the form. A supervisor at DMV had to correct the year date, since the form is sent to Tallahassee as an official record. The gross incompetence of the clerk is undeniable. When I asked his nurse if Dr Burns treats patients at any other office, I was told only in Orlando. When you google Dr Patrick J Burns DO in Jacksonville, he is affiliated with four other offices in the area. Today I received a form letter, purportedly signed by him, that states since I was "uncooperative, deceptive, disruptive with the physician or staff" they are no longer able to serve me as my physician. The same date of the form letter, received 13 days later, was the date I received an email for the next appointment (which I didn't set) for next month. Dr Burns, you need to either train your staff or get someone else to handle your front office at the Beaches location. Sincerely, Stephanie Haney P.S. I would return to you for treatment at a different in a heartbeat, since the pain is much reduced from your skilled treatment. I will not, however, deal with your staff at the Beaches location.

I saw Dr. Burns at his Riverside office and he was great! He really helped me to get rid of a lot of the pain I was experiencing. I will be going back to see him. Also, the office was really nice and clean!

I couldn't really rate diagnosis because he's pain management and never tried to diagnose me away from the Orthopedic doctor had found initially (later they found damage to my hip) found. He doesn't use OMT. I feel his primary concentration is anesthesiology. I thought he could help me more because of his very specialized training but he couldn't or wouldn't. Very nice in our appointment he has tons of energy and is skilled at lumbar epidurals under fluoroscope. He is very conservative with use of pharma. that is good trait he probably would of been better as a surgeon than intensive world of pain management seeing patients most days. Maybe later he will be more holistic.
