visits 1st visit "it's ok if he kicks, punches/hits, he's just venting as long as he isn't destroying stuff". (We prefer to de escalate) 2nd visit (after receiving IQ/test scores) you should not be promoting his wish to go to college. He will most likely not graduate from high school and you should consider he be in a field of hands on training also consider who will take care of him later in life. Based off this conversation we are seeking services through office of developmental disabilities. Yet when we asked him to fill out the paperwork he said "he doesn't know enough about him and can't tell what his future holds" . Complete 360 in 30 days! 3rd visit " are you worried about your grandson? (Very serious face) "of course, why would you ask that?" "Cause you have sent a barage of emails to me" I'm dumbfounded and reply " I'm not sure but my question to myself is why did I do that" I know we are tapering off meds and had a couple issues with behavior that warranted several emails but… otherwise I'm at a loss. I felt like I had to defend myself for being concerned the rest of the virtual visit. All he kept saying was none of my messages make sense ( in no email response did he ever ask me to clarify any statement I messaged him )and in the future to make an appointment. I told him I did email him about a sooner appointment he refused saying keep original appointment cause he had no openings. I felt aweful and investigated my barage of emails and the reason for my concerns as soon as our appointment ended. Mind you all of his appointments are virtual. Here's the reasons for emails. I realized most could have been alliviated with in person visits but he refuses to do in office visits. 5 emails were for school notes, lack there of or ones not actually received by school. 2 emails sending test scores 8 emails for pharmacy issues, switching, prior authorization, or pharmacy never received Rx 5 emails were Ochsner requested surveys 2 pre visit updates (he said he doesn't want this..we weren't advised of that) 5.emails about starting/stopping medication, including starting a new otc which he said was a good idea but never added.to his mychart and didn't recall ever emailing that. 2 for genuine behavior issues "concerns" but in all honesty we can throw the medication ones in there.So yes, I'd say 7 emails show genuine " concern". The rest I consider logistical because it's all virtual. Meaning the pharmacy, school notes and test scores didn't have to be emails. They could have been hand carried in an appointment that he refuses to have in office. So in the end I felt that I had to explain MY anxiety and depression issues to my kids doctor because I felt like the bad bad guy for sending all these email over 3 months because he can't or won't accommodate in office visits. How do I justify staying with a doctor we feel we can't message in the future without being chastised, or feel bad about being "concerned" about my grandson's health issues,pharmacy issues etc Time for us to move on 3rd times a charm!

He is a total quack. Loves to pat himself on his own back on raising his kids and the awesome parent he thinks he is. Don’t waste your time or money going to him he will just belittle you.

I would not recommend Dr. Patrick Drennan to anyone. His behavior is completely unprofessional. He tried to counsel/take on a psychologist role versus adhering to his "psychiatric specialty". This was the parent consult, and I am so glad I did not introduce my child to him. He attempted to joke with us about a serious matter. It's as if he can't separate working with children versus adults. I agree with the comment above about his behavior bordering on unethical. He attempted to make "observations" regarding my child's diagnosis (whom he has never met) instead of relying on the psychologist's notes. He actually misinterpreted the clinical notes completely! Again, I would never recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Drennan was the finest caliber of physician who helped my child and listened to my concerns. He is an asset to child psychiatry and parents struggling to make a sense of it all!
