Dr. Hitchon intentionally paralyzed me when I was 18. After surgery, he lied to me, hid my medical records, and forced me to live 18 years with a broken spinal cord. Dr. Hitchon is Satan in the flesh. He destroyed my life and the University of Iowa Hospital committed criminal acts in protecting him.

Dr Hitchon was recommended to do a vertebral surgery after we had had several injuries to the spine already. He was thorough in his preparation and prognosis. He gave due caution about the situation and the risks involved. After much consideration, we decided to go ahead with the surgery. It went well and my husband is much improved. He also recommended that we engage an endocrinologist to improve his bone strength and we are pursuing that treatment and are enjoying and looking forward a better quality of life. Dr. Hitchon broke the heads from the screws that were anchoring a metal plate to my lover spinal cord for a fusion. Instead of correcting this error, he placed the metal plate on my L5 vertebra and placed the heads of the screws on top and stitched me shut. This caused me to be paralyzed and have overwhelming pins & needles pain. After surgery, Dr. Hitchon told me it would heal over time - no more than three years. He said if it did not heal that he'd perform a simple surgery to correct it. After three years passed and the paralysis was not "healed" I requested he perform surgery on me. He went into a rage, declaring that he saved my life and that I should have become "used to the paralysis by now". He declared that if he could not fix it that NOBODY COULD FIX IT!" After telling me he'd never see me again, he refused to refer me to another neurosurgeon and never released my medical records to anyone who requested them. Since the records were being sealed at the University of… Iowa, no other surgeon would take me as a patient. 18 years later the pain was overwhelming. I went to a new spinal surgeon in my area and underwent tests that showed my spinal cord had never fused - like Dr. Hitchon claimed that it had. He referred me to Dr. Sergio Mendoza, an orthopedic surgeon at the same hospital. He began a 3-hour surgery that took 9.5 hours. After opening me up and exposing the metal piece installed by Dr. Hitchon, he touched it with his probe. It slid off of my spinal cord with the heads of the screws and my L5 vertebra fell to pieces. I had been living 18 YEARS with a broken spinal cord and Dr. Hitchon knew it. He did not perform any additional surgery in order to hide his pathetic work. He did not release my medical records so no other surgeon could expose his pathetic work. After surgery, Dr. Mendoza told me that he had no idea how I'd walked for 18 years and that Dr. Hitchon KNEW a simple surgery would have corrected my paralysis. Now, since so much time had passed, my paralysis was permanent. The University of Iowa Hospital did NOTHING to punish their highest paid surgeon for destroying my life and the arrogant, wicked Dr. Hitchon showed zero remorse for destroying the life of his patient. Dr. Hitchon spent less than five minutes with me at my appointments after an L-5 fusion surgery, during which he PARALYZED me. He is an arrogant liar who has zero concern for the welfare of his patients. BEWARE of this wicked man.

Dr. Hitchon is a terrible human being and lacks compassion. He is arrogant and a waste of space. Dont waste your time, the ratings speak for themselves. The hospital should be embaressed.

This wicked, arrogant performed surgery on my spine and committed criminal acts by intentionally paralyzing me. He lied about him being the cause, refused to release medical documentation, refused to refer me to another surgeon an so on. It was discovered 18-years later that my spinal cord had NEVER FUSED.
