Dr. Patrick F Oleary, MD

Having been referred to "Dr. O'Leary" by one of my physicians of comparable professional stature, though of a different area of specialization, during the time period 2010-2012, I visited [his] office on no less than 5-6 occasions, after having had also undergone additional X-Ray, MRI, and CT testing ordered by the good doctor. Indeed, I traveled from New Jersey to O'Leary's office via bus and subway, notwithstanding the toll which such travel exacted on my Lower Lumbar Spine and Legs. I met with O'Leary only twice out of the half dozen trips to his Madison Avenue office which, effectually, proved to be nothing more than successive occasions whereupon [he] would invent some pretext by which to string me along further in the diagnostic phase of his (or his associates) examination. As for his manner, O'Leary came across as a veritable Ultraconservative with little to no time for folks who rely upon their personal insurance coverage so to pay his price for services. If you're not… financially well healed, a professional athlete, dancer, actor, etc., you run the risk (as had I) of being viewed with unsympathetic glances, utter disdain, and an eagerness to dismiss you from his presence as a person unworthy of his time. During my final visit with the good doctor, surely after his office had racked up sizeable consultation fees over a two year period, recognizing that I did require surgery to correct a significant spinal pathology, within less than 5 minutes O'Leary stated that he "will not operate" on me until I should lose weight. At the time, being 6'2, I weighed 238 lbs. and, but for my paunch, needn't have been required to drop more than 15-20 lbs. When I asked "how much should I lose?" The good doctor never answered and left his consultation office without so much as a "thank you!" And this, too, was reflective of his Office Manager and support staff. My suspicions regarding O'Leary's attitude and willing dissociation from patients who were not "Cash" ready, however, was confirmed (in confidence) by a young (30-ish) Latin front office staff member who, as a matter of quid-quo-pro between us, was eager to describe the Back Story rationale for the delays between my appointments and, in time, what would be the outcome of my efforts to secure O'Leary's talents to relieve my suffering. Now we're practically seven years hence, and, from what I hear from various former colleagues and current orthopedic/ neuro- surgeons, all, have expressed incredulity at the meager -est notion that O'Leary is still practicing. Reading from some of the above Reviews, particularly that of a patient about whom suffered severely from O'Leary's surgical missteps, I'm thankful to God Almighty for redirecting me elsewhere. This is a person, a "physician," who cares only for the accumulation of even more wealth and has no compassion for the less fortunate. Stay away from this office if either you are having to use Insurance or not financially able to meet the price for his services. Even so, O'Leary is not at all a genuine human being nor is he kind. He is decidedly distant and removed and, for some, deserves much better.

Consummate professional

After surgery , dr OLeary does not see the patient as std procedure - had to wait $ months after surgery and when asked about recurrent symptoms --- all Dr O Leary would say " don't know - next question " Terrible doc

O'Leary destroyed my spine (after assurances I was a straightforward fusion case and great candidate) and I have had to endure 7 more surgeries to try to fix his mess-up. I was left WAY WORSE OFF than before with him. And if there is a mess-up, good luck trying to get information out of him--he'll rush you out of the office with mumbled excuses and cold behavior. I should have sued but didn't only because I didn't want to get black-listed by other surgeons that I needed to fix all the mistakes O'Leary made. History shows that he used to be a great surgeon, but he's too old now and he's "lost it." After messing me up, he couldn't figure out how to fix it, and only made things worse with a second surgery--that's when I left him to find someone who COULD fix his errors, but it took several more surgeries. I could write more, but bottom line--don't risk your spine and sanity with this guy.

Very through exam

Dr O'Leary was, perhaps, the finest diagnostician and focused and capable surgeon I've been treated by and I've undergone 9 surgeries for different reasons/medical issues since 1973.

He was my surgeon and 14 years later, I'm perfect!!

I wanted to like him, but just can't say I had a good experience. After being referred to Dr. O'Leary by my physiatrist for a surgical consult, I was made to feel like I had no business being there. Meanwhile, they require you to submit all of your information before even booking an appointment (to ensure you're in the right place)...I came prepared to the appointment with all of the information I was told to have from my referring Dr. Then I was told he couldn't make any recommendation without a report he was missing from my referring Dr. When I asked why they didn't inform me that this was missing from my record prior to coming in, they told me that was my responsibility to take care of. I'm sorry, am I supposed to be a mind reader? I was told that it was sent over by referring MD....Charged me $500 and refused to refund half the bill considering I didn't even get an opinion out of it. To their credit they offered a complimentary follow up for the misunderstanding, however I have no… interest in returning as the Dr. was terribly cold, and lacked any compassion for the pain that I am in. No suggestion that he wants to help me get better.

He saved my life. After I was told another surgery on my back was too chancy, Dr O'leary said he could help me, and he didn't see where surgery was that risky. He did it, and my pain is about 90%gone, I've been given a new lease on life. In addition his bedside manor was wonderful, and he is the most caring Dr. I've ever been to.
