Dr. Patrick Yatfu Tong, MD

My son saw Dr. Tong for a few years dealing with his amblyopia. Dr. Tong was always professional and got my son completely seeing as he should. He was playful and fun and not scary.

Dr. Tong gave a thorough exam for my children. he was very pleasant while speaking with me, but seemed frustrated when handling my young children. At first I thought that his strict, inflexible demeanor was necessary in order to achieve the most accurate result, but after watching my 2 year old tear up after being this doctor screamed at her to "be still and pay attention", I am more on the fence to not return. There are many good doctors out there who know their professions well, but there are very few great doctor's who know their professions well and also have excellent bedside manners. He was just simply good.

We've been seeing Dr Tong with our 5 year old daughter for a couple of years now. Our daughter is autistic and extremely fidgety. Dr Tong is simply excellent at engaging and redirecting her and performing a thorough examination at the same time. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

Dr. Tong is a gem of a doctor. He relates very well to young children. He sings to my 2 year old boy. He talks about Disney princesses with my 4 year old girl. Miraculously, he convinces them that the dilating eye drops are not that bad. He listens to my concerns, and does a very careful examination. The explanations are lucid and help me understand the factors that caused the problem and the reasoning underlying the proposed treatment program. I am so glad to have him in Columbia, only minutes away. When I was in the office, another family came from Austria, making a special trip to see him. From talking to the other family and witnessing how he helped my children see so much better is the reason why Dr. Tong is a gem of a doctor.

Horrible experience!

I am an ophthalmologist myself, and I completely trust Dr. Tong to take care of my family. He is extremely thorough in his examination of patients, is very pleasant and professional, spends time with his patients, and does his utmost to be the best doctor possible. Children really like him, and usually eye exams are pretty frightening for them. Our family pediatrician got a note from him within days and called me about it! Given that he has moved around various Hopkins sites over the years, and now has his own practice, I hope that parents are able to find this gem of a doctor.

He is so so terrible, I never met such aweful doctor before. I will never refer him to anyone.
