Dr. Robert How Chu, MD

We just want to get a pair eye glasses, but have to pay additional so called “eye exam” medical portion in amount $205 even we have eye insurance! However, this place mainly use very poor eye process!

We came to Dr. Chu since he was still at his old office. He took very good care of his patients. He's a dedicated professional eye doctor. He wasn't the best eye doctor but perhaps one of the best doctors of the Washington D.C. area. We would rate him at least 4-5 stars, unfortunately his front office personel was terrible and unprofessionalism. They think that this is the only eye doctor office on this earth. Sorry Dr. Chu, unless the front office is improved, we won't be back here again, ever .......

I took my dad to get his cataract surgery done for both eyes. Dr. Chu is by far the worst doctor. At the follow ups, he could care less what issues my father was describing. I was translating everything to make sure all my fathers concern were answered. Dr. Chu said to me to tell my dad that "he is fine. The issue is that my father cannot understand what he is saying". I am APPALLED!! to say the least. Stay away from him if you have elderly parents.

Worst, worst, worst doctor ever. put me on steroids without monitoring which leaded to extremely high eye pressure, at which point he still claimed a small problem. I went to a different doctor and they were shocked and started treating me right away and wouldn’t let me leave until the skyrocketing eye pressure (easily cause blindness)was pushed down. Plus if I didn’t follow up myself I would have still been on steroids as he prescribed. DO NOT go to this place unless you want eyes DESTROYED!

Surprised that he gains good reviews. I had seen him in many years ago and found that all of our experiences ware awful. He helped me to check my eye sight in order to wear contact lens. However, he forced me to order contact lens from him and refused to give me the prescription. He only offered to fax the prescription to the store that I want to order the lens.

Dr. Chu has been my physician since 1991, when optic neuritis occured in my left eye (and I was diagnosed with MS as a result. He is one of the Smartest, Kindest doctors I know; I am thrilled and grateful to have him as a member of my health care team.

It's been 2 years since my last visit and first time at the new office, I have to say Dr. Robert Chu is still the nicest doctor and very professional. He was thorough and answered all my questions. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I thought the new office is very beautiful. They also improved on their frame selections. The optician was very knowledgable and helped me with a beautiful pair of glasses. I highly recommend Dr. Chu.

Sometime around 1984, a well-experienced, well-known ophthalmologist alerted me to the fact that I had developed cataracts in both my eyes and they needed to be removed. Since this condition is a common occurrence in my native county, I did not pay much attention to his advice. I had glasses with a mild prescription, but since I was able to read without them, I used them only to read the very fine print such as the telephone directory listings etc. Later, after more than a decade had passed, my optometrist warned me that my cataracts were very advanced and hardened and that is was risky for me to wait any longer. People known to me also said the exact same thing. But my contention was that if I was able to read as well as write and drive very well even at night without noticing a change in my vision, I should wait until my vision worsened and become blurry, misty and cloudy in order to have surgery. But, a few months ago, I noticed that street names such as avenues and boulevards… were kind of blurry and had to get within close range to read them properly. This scared me a great deal. As time went by, I had to sometimes squint in order to read. I realized the only solution was to undergo surgery. I became skeptical and terrified at the mere thought of surgery, and did not have the gumption to have the cataracts removed although I was told it was a minor operation with no pain associated with it. I finally agreed with my family members that if I were to neglect it, it would lead to a very serious problem. Then, finding the best eye surgeon became a very big issue for me because I wanted nothing but the best possible treatment for myself. So, I consulted with an eye surgeon and then went to another for a second opinion. Neither of them were satisfactory to me and wondered if I should entrust the most sensitive and crucial organ in my body my pair of eyes, although they claim to have performed hundreds of cataract surgeries. I decided to consult with yet another surgeon who was recommended by a friend who had the same surgery. I waited and waited searching the web-site often, until I was confident I found the right one, since in my opinion, my vision had not deteriorated considerably. I believe the growth of my cataracts was slow and therefore I had more time to wait. My regular optometrist along with four eye surgeons I had met with had told me I should not postpone the surgery any longer as my cataracts were at a very very advanced stage. Lastly, I mode an appointment with Dr. Robert Chu whose office is located on Executive Boulevard in Rockville. Dr Chus bedside manner was excellent, even to this day. While in his office, I was shown a documentary video as to how the surgical procedure will be performed every step of the way. After answering all my questions and leading me out of his office, Dr. Chu held my hand giving me much needed moral support. He gently patted my hand uttering the reassuring words, Dont worry, everything will be alright. I will take care of you like my own mother. With tears rolling down my face, his gentle voice and soothing words were pacifying to me. Anyway, it took me another two whole months to sift through everything the doctors had told me. What stood out most were the pacifying words of Dr. Chu that kept on ringing in my ears and reiterating in my mind, as well as his excellent credentials. After performing the necessary tests and finding our my lifestyle and hobbies, he knew exactly which lens implant was most suitable for meDr. Chus bedside manner, the manner in which he patiently answered all my questions, his comfortable and spacious office, the courteous and helpful office assistants, his surgical team at the Palisades Surgical Center who worked enthusiastically and caringly during both my cataract operations these are the reasons why I am so glad I chose Dr. Chu who has now become my favorite doctor. I commend and thank Dr. Chu for successfully performing one of the most difficult cataract surgeries in his surgical career. I think of him as a God-send and appreciate the way he took care of me before and after the surgery. I have stated my sincere and honest opinion of Dr. Chu and I highly recommend him to you.
