Dr. Paul J Abbott Jr, MD

Dr. Abbott received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and then went on to complete his orthopaedic residency from the University of Washington and his sports medicine fellowship in Salt Lake City. Dr. Abbott is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He joined the Vail-Summit Orthopaedics team in 1993 and specializes in shoulder injuries. As the only physician in Eagle and Summit Counties who devotes his elective practice exclusively to the treatment of shoulder problems, Dr. Abbott actively attempts to prevent surgery with physical therapy and alternative medicine. Only 10% of Dr. Abbott's patients require surgery. Dr. Abbott is affiliated with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AOSSM) and was the recipient of the O'Donoghue Award, rewarded annually by the AOSSM for the best basic science research.
