Summary
I chaired the head and neck division of the American Cancer Society for over 20 years. In addition to being Partner of the Year in 2005, I was honored with the Schilling Award for compassionate care in 2007. That same year, I was elected to the board of directors for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. I also write novels, including Courage to Heal. The book is based on the true story of Dr. Sidney Garfield, who along with the industrialist Henry Kaiser founded Kaiser Permanente and changed the face of American medicine. All proceeds from the sale of the novel are donated to the Sidney Garfield Memorial Fund. The novel recently won the San Diego Book Award, the San Francisco Book Award, the New England Book Award, and the London Book Fair. I enjoy snow skiing, tennis, jogging, and working out. My family, friends, and colleagues are extremely important to me and it’s my relationships with them that help model my dedication to my profession.
